After a long day of fighting traffic to get to work(took me over an hour to get to work since an accident had happened earlier), drudging through the work day and fighting traffic again… I was feeling pretty tired. So what did I want to eat for dinner tonight??
Why…. of course I wanted SUSHI ON A BOAT! lol… so we ended up at Ebisu in Richmond.

I had to wait till 6:30 before we left for dinner since Marv was helping his friend install a car deck, so by the time we got to the restaurant, I was pretty hungry!
There was a fair amount of people in the restaurant when we arrived. Marv and I had decided that we would head next door after our ‘snack’ here for another meal at Dinesty! But, by the time we finished and headed over, the restaurant was packed! (btw, I hate lines…) so we opted to try across the street at a Shanghai restaurant, but no luck again! It was packed too! Why was it so busy on a wednesday night?? Btw… who stands in front of a doorway to a restaurant just to talk?? and proceed to block the entrance for others to try to get in or out? ANND when we try to get around them, THEN they decide to walk in front of us blocking us some more?!.. Seriously…(/rant)
Annnnyways, I’m getting off-topic… onto our meal at Ebisu!
Do you remember the earlier post where it was mentioned how you could tell the quality of a japanese restaurant by the WASABI?? They had it already lined up in the little saucers as you enter the restaurant, at this moment our expectations had dropped.
So, since we were thinking about heading over to Dinesty after, Marv opted to order light.
He started off with the 6 pieces of Salmon Sashimi ($5.80). It was very boring and typical, rather plain to say the least. Nothing special nor different from any local AYCE places out there.
Next up was the Prawn Tempura ($0.75 each). There was no taste of prawn in this dish, the batter was thick and a bit oily. They provide a lot of dipping sauce, but again it lacked flavours and would have been no different than if we were to dip it in plain water. The picture looks good though doesn’t it?
The Mini Sushi Don ($5.50) arrived next. Why’s all of Marvs order arriving before mine?! I’m the one hungry here >_< Where’s my sushi on a boat!
This dish was also nothing special to write about, but the pics again make it look so appetizing!
After an excruciatingly long wait, my Chicken Teriyaki Boat ($12.95) finally arrives! =D It consisted of chicken teriyaki, 3 pcs dynamite roll, 3 pcs california roll, 1 pcs salmon nigiri, 1 pcs tuna nigiri and assorted tempura. For people who enjoy a variety of food, this would be the kind of thing to order. You get a little bit of everything an the best part about it?? It comes on a boat!! Okay, you knew that was coming =)
There was 2 pieces of chicken in the chicken teriyaki on rice. The pieces were very big/thick, it was more than enough to go with the rice in the bowl. The california/dynamite roll were decent, I ended up finishing both rolls. The assorted tempura had 2 pieces of prawn, 1 carrot, 1 big green pepper and 1 zuchini. The batter again was very thick and the dipping sauce was lacking flavour.. but hey.. it was all on a boat! =D
Last but not least, the fresh oysters ($0.88 each) arrived to our table. I knew Marv would try to upstage my boat by getting a dish that was plated even bigger than mine! >=( I’m onto you!!
I don’t eat raw oysters, so this was all Marvs. To his surprise, the oysters were very fresh! Served in a huge platter, it turned a few heads as it was being delivered to our table.
(totally stole my boat thunder! SO… I’m gonna have to end this post with another picture of my boat!! ^_^ )
I do have to say that Marv’s oyster plate beat your boat! HAHHA
mm I love oysters!
A bit disappointed to hear about the prawn tempura.. its the only tempura I enjoy eating.
The boat looks filling. I don’t think you need to go eat again after.
Mini sushi don looks so CUTE and yummy! Is that uni or soya/wasabi on top?
I so agree with the rant part!
Sorry have to agree with the WUsha here… oysters have become a huge craving for me. Glad to hear they were good! Sad that the salmon sashimi is nothing special though…
Now you’ve got me thinking about sushi…for breakfast!
haha fine, he can steal my boat thunder… the next time I’m gonna order something even better!! lol 🙂
MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm RAW OYSTERS!!! marv has such good taste….sorry col…but i love oysters more than your boat….LOL…and it does look like UNI……yummy…but the colour doesnt look fresh…LOL
