What a surprise, Marv is still hungry AFTER our meal from Sushi House.. so we’ve ended up at Aoyama Cafe in Aberdeen Centre for the continuation of his dinner and my dessert. 🙂 A Late-R Night Snack!
I don’t know about you, but I’m a sucker for Christmas lights, so out of all the exterior shots, I had to choose the only one that included the Christmas lights on the trees!
After seeing photos of their desserts, I’ve been dying to try this place out…so you can imagine how excited I was when we got here 🙂
We were seated beside the window near the entrance to the mall. It was a bit awkward as I’m guessing you all know… people walking by like to stare and stare and stare!
The seats were comfortable, Marv liked our table so much that he said he’ll refuse to sit anywhere else in the restaurant from now on! Hahah, I’m sure he’ll even sit on the FLOOR if he had to since he loved this place so much.. :p
It looks pretty empty ‘eh? It was pretty empty when we got there, however it was packed by the time we finished ordering! I guess we were pretty lucky to get there when we did! 🙂
I enjoy going to restaurants with a button to press for service. This might be due to the fact that I’m never able to flag down a server. I guess I don’t wave frantically enough for anyone to notice, or I just happen to get the servers who never look in my direction… yeah I’ll chalk it up to the server not looking in my direction :p
Aoyama has daily specials for $14.95, it includes a house salad, entree, coffee or tea, and you can add a dessert for an additional $3.50. Ssince we had gone on a friday night, it was their Omurice that was on special. Our server for the night was very helpful and friendly. We’re also hoping we get him as our server again next time! lol.
For our drinks, the Hazelnut coffee caught my eye. Lately I’ve been addicted to anything with hazelnut in it, so of course I had to give it a try. Marv ordered the UCC blend since that was basically the only choice for the set meal he wanted.
So, I loved the hazelnut coffee! The hazelnut taste was not overpowering and the coffee was light. I would’ve ordered another one but I was afraid I’d be too full to eat the dessert coming up! 😀 Marv thought the UCC blend was plain. Yes, just plain…that was it.
Next came the house salad. I think the first bite won Marv over. He very much enjoyed the tangy Japanese house dressing.
The next dish came as a recommendation by our helpful server. Since the Omurice was on special, the server highly recommended we get the Chicken Omurice with Hayashi sauce.
The pictures do not do this dish justice. I had the opportunity to take the first bite since Marv was still working on his salad, and it was delicious! I didn’t expect it to be so tasty, I almost wanted to finish this dish instead of the upcoming dessert. (Actually, I did try to steer Marv away from the dish by telling him he wouldn’t like it…heh heh, but he didn’t fall for it since I was eating it so quickly..Darn *note to self, next time eat slower to make it more believable) O:)
The chicken was crispy and nicely fried, the pieces are not too small. The curry flavoured rice wrapped inside a thin egg omelet was delicious. The curry was not too strong and mixed well with the hayashi sauce. The only bad thing I would mention about this dish is that the sauce was served a little on the warm side. If it was hot, the dish would’ve been superb!
And last but not least, we went with the Macha Parfait for dessert.
This had a bottom layer of red bean, with a layer of whipped cream on top, followed by a layer of fruit cocktail mix, followed by another layer of whipped cream, with a layer of kanten jelly, followed by 2 scoops of green tea ice cream, with a dollop of whipped cream garnished with some chestnuts. Whew, what a mouthful!
It was a bit difficult to get to the lower layers since we did not want to accidently knock a scoop of the ice cream onto the table. I don’t know about you, but I like to eat my ice cream when it’s still in its solid state… whereas SOMEBODY(who shall remain nameless) decided to mush up the ice cream with the rest of the parfait.. so it was all a goopy mess 🙁 So my review of the dessert goes only as far as the ice cream :p As for the rest of the dessert, Marv said it was tasteless, bland… the only thing that saved it was the ice cream. (hmph! and yet it was turned into mush..! Yeeups… still bitter!)

What is hayashi sauce?? (Too lazy to Google)
Hayashi is usually made with beef, onions, mushrooms. It’s consistency is a bit thick, similar to a stew.
LOL, laughed at the part about the “SOMEBODY(who shall remain nameless)” part…
its quite obvious who is it.. you told us the answer on the last sentence.
“Marv said it was tasteless, bland… the only thing that saved it was the ice cream. (hmph! and yet it was turned into mush..! Yeeups… still bitter!)”
HAHA! or was this intentional..!
I would try the matcha parfait but i’m not a fan of fruit cocktail mix (I have my reasons). Everything else looks delicious!
Hahah! Whoops… my bad =)
I’d rather choose a different dessert next time, the ice cream was really the best part of the macha parfait
