I decided to take Marv to one of my favourite japanese restaurants for dinner. We had tried to come here before, but for some reason every time we had tried to visit Seto Sushi, it was closed. I was determined to visit this restaurant! So off we went to Alexandra Rd, and as luck would have it, it was open! Woo!!
Seto Sushi
8460 Alexandra Rd, Richmond BC
Tel#: (604) 231-9493
We arrived at 5:30 as it just opened and were promptly greeted and guided to our enclosed booth. I enjoy dining here because the tables are so privately set, which was so refreshing compared to the last few restaurants where the seating was so close together that I felt like we had joined their table or vice versa lol.
It took us awhile to figure out what we wanted to order because the menu covered quite a few pages and Marv couldn’t decide what he wanted to eat. Once we established our list of food, there was no need to flag a server down as one was already keenly waiting for us to order.
We decided to go with the Chopped Scallop Roll and Negitoro Roll.
The chopped scallop roll was delicious. The rice and scallop ratio were very well proportioned. It was very tasty. We found the negitoro roll to be okay, nothing special.
Next up, I wanted the Onigiri with Dried Bonito.
Well, I love eating onigiri! It was especially cool that you get to wrap up the rice yourself! Okay..so I like food that’s a bit more interactive :p They provide an individually wrapped seaweed wrapper on the side with instructions.
Okay…obviously that was not done being wrapped..haha but you get the idea 🙂
As for our meal.. we decided to go with the Family Boat. YES!!! ANOTHER BOAT!! 😀
The boat included a House roll, Chicken Karage, Tempura, Gyoza, Salmon Teriyaki, Sunomono, Miso Soup, Fruit and Ice Cream. Mmm.. a lot of food ‘eh?! The boat was massive!! Once it arrived to our table, it’s like the table disappeared lol It’s a good thing we finished off a lot of the other food on the table first!
The boat came with Miso Soup and Sunomono. The Sunomono was very well mixed. The vinegar wasn’t overpowering and the prawns had flavour. Marv had it all in 1 gulp lol!
On the boat, there was tempura. I’ve never seen broccoli tempura before, have you?? I found it to be not oily, crispy and had a nice variety of vegetables than the usual ones.
The salad was pretty fresh, although I could’ve done without big chunks of tomatoes. The chicken karage could easily be the best I’ve ever tasted! It was still juicy, not dry and plump! If only there were more on the boat..
The House Roll was just average. We enjoyed the ones at Sushi House much more than these ones. The fruit on the other hand was great! Lately for some reason, I’ve been a huge fan of pineapples! So Marv knew he would have to fight me to get these pineapples and he managed to get 1! However, in the end he kindly offered it to me instead 🙂 Mmm pineapple!
As for ice cream, Marv went for the scoop of green tea, while I opted for the mango! If you ask him, he’ll swear his was way better than mine :p
Marv had been eyeing the Blue Fin Sushi on the menu, so I finally got him to order a piece to try it. Here’s his thoughts below:
“The BLUEfin Tuna TORO sushi was expensive. $8 for one piece so I had to try it. It was a let down due to the fact that I was expecting too much. I expected fireworks in my mouth with the the heavens parting and velvet roses as my foot path. Nopes, not even close. The fish was rather oily and had a bit of fishy-ness to it. I recommend any basic TORO from sushi garden or sushi town …………”
Overall, we were happy with dinner. Food, service, all was good. 🙂

The idea of wrapping your own onigiri is great! Too bad we didn’t see the finished product, or was that it? Haha.
Hahaha that was Marvs attempt on wrapping it! He decided to wrap it for me to eat, and just left it like that on my plate lol 🙂
