Wings

January 30, 2011 6:00 am / 4 Comments / 604munchies

It’s my friend Meryl’s birthday and she decided to have an intimate gathering at Wings Pub & Grill on a wednesday night 🙂   Almost everyone invited showed up except for *cough*Sharon*cough*.   Whew, excuse me there, had something caught in my throat 🙂

Wings Pub & Grill
6879 Kingsway, Burnaby BC
Tel#:  (604) 525-7414

It’s pretty dimly lit in the pub, except for the table that Meryl chose!   It had bright lights, and I was able to spot them right away when I entered the place.

Since Meryl and Scott were already drinking beer when I got there, I decided to join them and order one for myself too while we waited for our last guest joining us, Belinda 🙂

Can you guess who got which beer?   Stella Artois, Kokanee, Sapporo

As for food, Belinda went with a lb each of the Honey Garlic and Sweet Thai Chili.

The honey garlic was not very flavourful and not too sticky.  Thai chili on the other hand was pretty flavourful.  It was a bit hard to tell the difference between the 2 on the plate.

Meryl went with the Mesquite BBQ flavour.

The dry rub was excellent.  It was sweet and smokey.  The wings were reasonably sized and meaty.

Scott decided to stray from the wings chain and went with the Steak Sandwich.

Here’s his thoughts on the sandwich 🙂

‘Steak Sandwich: Good quality beef overall with a little less spice than I prefer. The garlic toast was a tich tougher in texture than ideal, but well seasoned and flavourful. The fries were good but not spectacular. Not greasy so that’s a plus. Overall, It was a slightly above average steak sandwich compared to other pub fare.’

I also decided to not get wings at ‘Wings’ lol.  I decided to try out their Mile High Burger.

This was a pretty huge burger!  If you’re hungry, then this is the burger to get!  The burger itself was pretty good, not dry.  It was pretty saucy, so be careful when picking up the burger.  I had a couple of close calls in dripping it onto my lap haha 🙂

And for dessert??   Meryl and Belinda opted to try out the Bobby Wing!

After the tears, coughs and choking sounds subsided, Scott and I were finally able to ask how the experience was 🙂   I was able to get a video of this moment, however it was much too dark and you can’t really make out the people in the video 🙁

Meryl:  Holy Hiroshima, Batman! (is that too offensive?) It doesn’t hit you at first, but when you’re swallowing one chunk and chewing through a bit of cartilage, you start feeling the burn in your throat and then it feels like something’s going to explode behind your ears! You’ll drip from every orifice and your fingers and mouth will still feel the tingle the next day!
