Since we didn’t enjoy the Beef Noodle Soup from Shanghai River, we vowed to go to YY Village another night to make up for it 🙂 Marv ‘n I have both been here in the past and found it to be pretty spot on, so decided this would be the best choice.

When we arrived, there was only 1 other table of regulars occupied. I got a sense of a ‘homey’ feel to the place. I felt very comfortable in the restaurant, almost to the point where I didn’t want to bother the server for more water and would rather just get up to get it myself lol 🙂
After looking through the menu, we decided to order a bunch of items to try.
We ended up starting off with the Deep Fried Spring Roll.
This was the vegetarian version. We found this to be nothing special and quite oily.
Next up was the Soymilk(salty) with an extra order of Chinese Doughnut.
This was very good, although I think I would prefer the sweet version next time. We decided to get an extra order of the doughnut to dip in the soymilk.
Here’s the long awaited Beef Noodle in Soup.
So, I really enjoyed this dish. The broth was nicely hot and flavourful. The meat was very tender and there was a heaping pile of noodles in this dish. I really like the generous helping of pickled vegetables that they put on top, but Marv tried to steal it saying I wouldn’t like it =Þ This was so good that we had to order another one for take out! 🙂
Next up was the Deep Fried Chicken Wings.
The chicken wings was tender and well cooked. There was nothing special to make us order it again next time.
Marv went with the Pork Chop Noodle Soup.
He found the soup base to be very light. There was also a lot of noodles in this dish.
The pork chop was well cooked(even though the pictures didn’t turn out very well.) Is it the 5 spiced powder that’s used to coat the pork chop??
Of course Marv had to get an order of the Deep Fried Intestines. Marv found this to be the best version he’s ever tried in the lower mainland. It had great texture and wasn’t overcooked to the point where it’s toasted. The garlic sauce on the side was a bit too strong for him, but it combined well with the sauce on the side. He’d definately order this dish again.
Last but not least was the Beef Pancake Roll. This was undeniably better than the one I raved about from Dinesty! It was so flavourful and the pancake wrap texture was crisp yet chewy. Too bad it was the last dish to arrive as we had already gotten full on the previous items, but I still managed to eat 2 pieces of the roll since it was too good to just pack home and eat later!
The restaurant filled up quickly as we placed our order. Neither of us counted how much we actually ticked off, we ended up ordering a lot of food! lol, it quickly filled up our table and we had to eat quickly to make more room 🙂 The table beside us kept looking over and seeing what was being delivered to our table. Does it bother anyone else to have people gawk at the food being presented to you??
Overall, we enjoyed this restaurant and will likely revisit again in the very near future. Can’t seem to get the beef pancake roll out of our minds lol 🙂

Are you both in Richmond? Just cuious.
I had never tried YY’s beef noodle before. This afternoon I am going to Shanghai House to try their beef noodle. LOL! I know … the restaurant name is “Shanghai” and it’s beef noodles I am going for. I saw it from JoyLuckClub’s blog. http://wokinthetuscankitchen.blogspot.com/2011/01/shanghai-house-in-richmond.html … it is cheap and that’s what I like. 🙂
Hey, one more thing … looking at the beef noodle in YY … have you ever tried the one in Accord (Metrotown area)? Check that out … I think you will like it there.
Ben
Hey Ben!
Only Marv is in richmond, but I usually end up venturing into richmond on the weeknights for food, otherwise we are all over the place on the weekends 🙂
Yum, JoyLuckClub’s post on the beef noodles looks good! Be sure to lemme know how enjoyed it, makes me want to revisit Shanghai House soon too lol
We always say we will visit Accord(after looking at your blog…actually quite a few of the restaurants we end up deciding to try come from your blog lol! Your pics just make the food look so tasty!), but we end up at Lao Shan Dong all the time when we are in that area…one day I will make it a point to go to Accord 🙂
Im one of the 5 people who voted for YY Village’s in Chowtimes beef noodle poll. I havent really tried a lot of TBN but I thought YY’s version is pretty decent. Plus its cheap too. 🙂
Agreed! can’t really complain about the price hehe, plus the owners are so friendly, so it makes it that much better eating here 🙂
