Rose wanted to try out Faubourg in Kerrisdale and decided to invite us out for afternoon tea 🙂 How can I say no to desserts and pastries?! You hit my weak spot Rose.. 🙂 So I grabbed Marv and off to Faubourg we all went!
Faubourg
2156 W 41st Ave, Vancouver BC
Tel#: (604) 266-2156
I don’t usually get a chance to head into Kerrisdale too often. I actually really enjoy the atmosphere/neighbourhood there. The place was not hard to find. It’s located on 41st avenue just 1 block west of west boulevard. Parking is a bit tough though, metered parking as usual. I’m beginning to run out of coins for all these metered parking spots in the city!
Faubourg was pretty packed when we arrived. There was quite a lineup in the front of the store. We had to weave our way past everyone and got to the back of the place where the Afternoon tea is situated. We were delightfully surprised when the server brought over loose leaf tea samples. This made it easier to choose which tea we’d like rather than the usual text on paper.
There was quite a few to choose from, Rose went with the Sultane black tea. This is a traditional breakfast blend which had strong flavours with a hint of chocolate. Marv went with the Bourbon Vanilla. This red tea had a very fragrant smell to it. Marv was able to drink pot after pot after pot! I decided to go with the Marco Polo. This black tea was a fruity and flowery blend. I very much enjoyed it.
You’re given a choice of whether you want the full afternoon tea menu which is the ‘Pink’ afternoon tea menu or if you prefer to only choose 2 sandwiches and 2 desserts, you may opt for the ‘Purple’ tea menu.
Food selection is good, the dessert portion was not all chocolate-y so the variety was nice. We all decided to go with the ‘Pink’ menu.
We were presented with 2, the top tier holding the desserts, while the bottom tier had the sandwiches and scones. Marv was the special one and received his selection on his very own 2 tier setting. For the dessert portion, it included the Fruit Souffle, Mini Lemon Tart, Mini Opera, Chocolate Mousse and a Parfait.
We all had our own favourite dessert. Marv absolutely loved the mini opera. I could sense he was eyeing ours as he finished off his piece lol 🙂 I especially enjoyed the Lemon Tart. It was not too sour, and had a zingy taste to it.
As for the bottom tier, it included the Scones, Smoked Salmon and Wasabi Cream and the Chicken, Apple, Country Ranch Dressing. The smoked salmon we received was very thinly sliced. We had all been to Bacchus for afternoon tea and agreed it was better executed there.
Overall, we all had a great time eating conversing while munching on tiny pastries. The seating arrangement is a bit too close together. There’s no room for you to relax and get comfortable in your seat without thinking you’ll knock the person beside/behind you. It might also have to do with the fact that there was a big group already there which required them to push a bunch of the tables together. There were a lot of people coming and going which made the place feel a lot stuffier than it is. Service-wise, I found that we were well looked after. Price-wise, it’s also quite a bit cheaper than the afternoon tea offerings at the hotels that we’ve been to, I’d say we were all pretty satisfied with this outing. Thanks again for inviting us out Rose! 🙂

Hmmm I definitely wanna try Faubourg, especially their desserts, because I find both Adonia and Secret Garden quite weak in their sweets…
The desserts were pretty good! I haven’t tried Adonia, would you recommend it? Yeah, I found Secret Garden to be a bit slack in their sweets too, but it’s a more laid back atmosphere than Faubourg that’s for sure 🙂
I like Adonia’s savoury selections more, but their sweets are a bit better than Secret Garden in my opinion, although both not too great. However I need to try Secret Garden’s savoury selections to make a better judgement =P
