Since I had wanted to visit Trafalgars for awhile now, and since it was listed as one of the dine out restaurants, I figured why not try it now. So I rounded up my friends Belinda, Meryl and Sharon for this dinner. Marv ‘n I showed up early as usual, so we decided to stop into Sweet Obsession on the same block for a bite of dessert before our meal 🙂

Our reservation was set for 5 people at 7pm, however our table was not ready yet since the patrons before us was still there. The host kept informing us that our table would be ready shortly. The place ended up being a lot smaller than I had imagined. One thing to mention here is that you must order off their dine out menu. They are pretty strict about that. So, if you come here during the week of dine out, be forewarned. Marv was disappointed that he could not order the lamb burger with truffle fries.
We first received the complimentary bread. I enjoyed the pumpkin seed slices, partially because there was more texture to it than the other slices.
For the starter Sharon went with the Cauliflower Puree with Toasted Walnuts & Chives shown above right. She found the puree to be tasty with good consistency.
Belinda, Meryl and Marv all went with the Braised Pork Meatballs with Arugula, Tomato Sauce. Meryl found the texture of the meatballs to be perfect. It was finely grounded which did not remind her of spam. The tomato sauce was surprisingly gentle with the greens. Marv thought the meatballs were juicy but just alright. Overall, a filling and satisfying appetizer.
So, I decided on the Mixed Greens Salad with Dijon Vinaigrette & Granny Smith Apple. Yeah yeah, everyone knocked me for getting the salad, however I thought the salad was very tasty! And since I had just had a slice of cake before the dinner, the salad was a nice switch to begin the meal.
Belinda and Meryl decided to go with the Lois Lake Steelhead Filet with Glazed Carrots, Green Lentils & Mustard Cream shown above left. As per Meryl, the crispy skin was a nice surprise-often filets come without any skin at all. The lentils, though on the coldish side, were reasonably toothsome. Carrots were brutal to cut through. Sharon went with the Mushroom Risotto with Truffle Oil, grana padano & Chives shown above right. She thought the risotto could have been less sticky and less hard but overall still yummy.
Since Marv was already disappointed about not getting his burger, he reluctantly ordered the Tomato Braised beef with Pappardelle, Leeks & White Wine Cream Sauce. Despite how it looks in the picture, the portion was very small compared the rest of our entrees. There was only a tiny bit of Pappardelle and the beef was extremely salty. No wonder Marv kept downing glass after glass of water.
For an extra $3.00, there is the option of the Rare Grilled Albacore Tuna. I found this dish to be quite tasty. It came with spinach, carrots and potatoes. I especially enjoyed the purple potatoes.
As for dessert, Belinda and Sharon ordered the Passionfruit Flan. According to Sharon, the flan was ‘awesome!’ 🙂 Marv went for the Chocolate Ganache Cake. Did we not have enough chocolate ganache at Sweet Obsession? lol!
As for Meryl and I, we chose the Creme Brulee for dessert. She found it to have the perfect amount of sweetness but would’ve preferred a little warmer. It also had a perfect thickness to the hardened top layer.
Overall, service was very good, refilled drinks in a timely manner, and food came out quite quickly. Dinner was good, company was great… too bad there was no lamb burger with truffle fries… but there’s always next time? 🙂
