Izumi-Ya

I don’t remember exactly how I found this place, but I’m pretty sure it was when I got a craving for japanese take-out while watching Initial D, hahaha I’m pretty sure that’s what it was…lol
I live and work close enough to swing by quickly, ever since then I’ve been a regular here for years. I have never been disappointed with the quality of their foods.
And the price you ask? It’s cheap!  Works well for me since I can eat a lot. lol

Izumi-Ya
160 – 7971 Alderbridge Way, Richmond BC
Tel#:  (604) 303-1171

Alright, enough about me, time to talk about the stuff I got during one of my regular visits………..

The selection is quite vast.  There are a couple of open fridges for you to choose from.

I decided to get a couple of the Chicken Onigiri.

This is an awesome thing to keep in your pocket while your at work.  They give you 2 pieces of seaweed. Two! Extra crunchy. They have a few different types of onigiri’s to choose from so you can try ’em all and see which ones you like.

This is the Pork shoga Yaki donburi.  I haven’t seen this item before so I gave it a try today….not as good as my oyako don!  I found the pork rather thin and dry.

The Negitoro Roll is my favorite.  Need I say more?  Wait…there’s a competition for this item and its below.  lol

This is the Oyako donburi.  This is my GO TO item here. The chicken pieces are nice and tender, super flavour on the egg. Very generous amount of rice underneath.

The Spicy Tuna roll is a great value and just enough amount of kick in the spicy department.

Now the Negitoro Tamaki is awesome!  I truly love this! You get to wrap it up yourself and that is soo much better to retain the crunch of the seaweed.
I always get this one too. Tons of negitoro inside which makes it awesomer!  hahaha

See! 🙂

The Tenzaru/california combo.  I loved this.  There is actually tons of soba underneath that fried vegetable pancake.  The dipping sauce was good and light. I used too much wasabi and got a pretty nice kick from it early lol…. california roll was good too, a major filler.

Chicken Curry – Looks good doesn’t it?  I didn’t get to eat this cause I bought it for Colleen to take for lunch, so her verdict on this item is……it was gross!

The Chirashi sushi.  I got this for my sis because she loves this combo, the sashimi are always fresh and tasty, portion wise for the price, its awesome. I’ve eaten this before as well and its a good deal.

And that’s what I got for the day, obviously there are more items to choose from once your inside and I can’t possibly buy em all at once, lol.  But believe me, I’ve been tempted…keep telling myself to not go here when I’m hungry, doesn’t help man…..
On a side note, they start discounting the prices on all food items around 1845-1900ish, just before they close for the night. Good luck battling.

That chirashi looks good and cheap. I’m gonna try that next time I go there. On my last visit there, I mistakenly ordered oyako don. When I saw the word oyako, somehow I thought it was oyster omelet. Anyway, that was a good mistake. I liked it too and will also order that again.

Chirashi is good there and I would definitely recommend it! Glad to hear the oyako mishap turned out to be a good one =] I find the other donburis there to be just as good too!

I always tend to pickup the Chirashi from Izumi-ya whenever I’m looking for a cheap fix. It’s decent for the price and sometimes even contains Kampachi (one of my favorites!). I haven’t gone ever since they moved to the building facing Alderbridge but this post definitely makes me want to pay a visit to them tomorrow.

      Hey jer!

Yeah, definitely give them a visit! The store feels a lot bigger and give the chocolate shop on the left a try. The flavoured chocolates are quite good =]
