After our snack at Jade, we picked up Marvs parents and off to The Place we went! This place came highly recommended by my friend Vince. Finding parking on a friday afternoon on Granville started off looking like it’d be difficult, but we scored a spot right in front just as someone pulled out! =)
The Place
8028 Granville St, Vancouver BC
Tel#: (604) 261-3948
From outside, the place looked quite small, but actually it held quite a number of tables. I have to admit, I wasn’t expecting the chairs to be covered and glass over the tablecloths. It was a nice surprise.
Vince had been raving about the Steamed Juicy Dumplings, so we started off with 2 orders without knowing what to expect.
Hehe, I think our table was a bit in shock when we saw the size of each xlb! Marv absolutely loved this version of xlb, why? Because it was huge!! Lol, It was good enough to fill him up and it was quite tasty. There was a ton of soup in each one(even tho it looks a bit flat). Marvs dad had commented how if you let 2 of these dumplings soups out, you’d be able to fill your entire bowl up and drink the soup lol! 🙂
Well, I didn’t want to let all the soup out, so I only left a small portion of it lol!
We also ordered the ‘Combo for 2.’
This combination allows you to choose 2 items from its menu and includes either 2 bowls of rice or 2 pancakes(we opted for rice). Marvs mom suggested to try the Family Hotpot shown above. We were completely thrown off by it once it arrived cause it wasn’t really hot pot, instead it was an enormous bowl of soup! This was pretty tasty and clean. There was way too much soup even for the 4 of us sharing it!
The next to arrive is one of Marvs dad’s favorite dishes, Fish in Wine Sauce. There were tons of fish and the flavour was pretty spot on. They would definitely reorder this dish next time!
Since we weren’t expecting the gigantic bowl of soup, we ordered a Beef Noodle Soup as well! This was so-so, I still prefer my Lao Shan Dong Noodle house but the noodles here were much chewier and thick. The broth was okay and there weren’t a ton of beef in there.
Overall I wish I could order more of the items on the menu (like the beef roll, deep fried roll/sweet and sour spareribs/spicy boil lamb…. etc)as they all sounded very yummy. I guess now we have a list of stuff to try the next time we’re in the area to revisit! =)

Coincidentally, we had our dinner at The Place a couple of weeks ago. We used to order the same Family Hot Pot all the time but this time we ordered something different just to try out something new. I love the Family Hot Pot and Suanne makes it at home. I am just happy with rice plus that … can even eat it everyday! Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed this particular post. Ben
Hey Ben!
Marv also loves to eat soup with rice!! (All the time if he had a say in it lol!) We are definitely going back to try other items for sure, any recommendations? =)
Oh wow! I want to try!! How are the prices?
Not bad at all! There are pictures of the menu up on urbanspoon =)
