Marv ‘n I were invited to a dinner at Food For Buddha’s place! Little did we know it would be more towards a feast! Company for the night included fellow food bloggers: O My Sweet Tooth and Fork or Chopstick(plus a friend), as well as the brothers of Panda Fresh/Lully’s Sandwich. It was a great mix of people and we very much enjoyed their random spurts of topic lol! =) At first I thought it would be strange dining with a bunch of people we’ve never met before, but everyone was genuinely nice and very friendly. I like that. =)
Okay, let’s get on with the food! Above left is the sauce station! I’ve never been offered so many choices at a homestyle hot pot! I couldn’t make up my mind what kind of sauce to make, so I ended up with a simple peanut/soy/satay lol! Yeah I know.. just 3 types lol! There were 3 hot pots going on at the table! I am such a weakling when it comes to spicy foods, so I went with the simple broth side =) The right is a Curry Soup base. This was quite tasty, I only dared to eat a couple of pieces from this side, otherwise I wouldn’t be able to use my tastebuds for the rest of the night lol! =)
The above left was the spicy one! Despite what the others said, this looked like it was really spicy! Lol! Just looking at it made me sweat!
Yes, there was a lot of food on the table for hot pot.. A LOT!! And I didn’t even get a pic of everything on the table! lol!
What’s this?!?! Buddha Boy was in the kitchen for most of the hot pot portion of the night. He was busy making more food! Above are the ingredients used in the following pictures of HONEY TOAST!! Lol, I was so excited when I heard he would be making not just 1, not 2… but 3 of them!! =)
Ahh, the beginning of the assembly process!! I was told the strips of bread were done french toast style.
The first one out of the kitchen was the savoury version. This was piled high with a bed of mac ‘n cheese, meatballs, bacon. I thought this was a nice rendition of a normally sweet one. I enjoyed the mac ‘n cheese and the meatball…but I was already full from the hot pot to really indulge in this one!
Next one to come out had fruit, ice cream, whipped cream with the french toast slices. This one looked very appetizing, but I ended up not trying it. I knew if I did, I would want to eat the entire thing haha, actually, I did want to eat the entire thing! LOL But phew, self-control kicked in! =)
Next out was the Oreo version. Arrrrgh, once this hit the table, I couldn’t refrain myself from tasting this one! Was there fudge/brownies in this one too?? I really liked this one, good thing Marv kept taking portions off this one so I could steal it off his plate =D
Alright, this is hands down my FAVOURITE dish of the night. Deep Fried Chicken Balls. Seriously. No joke. I am going to have this from now on. I may need to borrow BB for this lol! =) There’s a bit of chicken ‘n potatoes all rolled into a neat ball with a gravy that’s just so tasty. I would prefer it with a bit more mashed potatoes though, but then again I love anything with lots of potato in it lol.
This was the Chicken Nuggets. This was quite a hit at the table! I think I was trying to see who could out eat Marv on this dish! It was a close race between Derek and Marv! lol! The first batch that came out was not as crispy as the next batches. The chicken was tender and well spiced with good flavour. This was hands down Marvs favourite of the night! =)
What? There’s MORE food? Yes! Here comes the Chicken Wings, along with Rice with Meat(pork belly) sauce. I was glad the rice dish was served in a small portion, we were already so stuffed and didn’t want to waste it!
Overall, we thought everything was delicious! Thank you so much to FoodForBuddha for inviting us and putting so much work into this dinner! You are both great hosts! Our apologies for being late, we ended up having to wait longer than expected when picking up the Taho. =( At the end of the night, BG offered for everyone to take some food home, Marv told me he wanted to take BB home cause he absolutely loved his chicken nuggets! LOL =)
And to the rest of the guests, you guys were all awesomely entertaining =) Marv ‘n I had a great time and hope to see y’all again for more eats!
Cheers! =)

Oh what?!? Oh gosh … this is amazing. Too bad I was not worthy enough to be invited. Boohoo. 🙂 Ben
Just one word to describe it. WOW!! The hotpot alone wouldve been too much food for me. Buddhaboy should really open a restaurant or at least an underground kitchen type dinner.
that’s a crazy hotpot! the honey toast looks great!! good combinations!
Wow crazy toasts! I gotta say that savory version is just epic!
OMG!!! You beat me to it!!! I was just typing the post up last night (well…technically this morning)…hahaha! And I still didn’t get it done…hahahaha!
@Ben:
It’s our first trial run and we made it a “date night”…so not counting the hosts, everyone has to be single…hahahaha! You and Suanne are not “qualified”…hahahahaha! :p
@Crispy:
LOL!!! Buddha Boy wants to open a restaurant…but he couldn’t decide what he wants to sell…his mind is all over the places…hahahahah!
@hotpot
Thanks! I admit…we go crazy on food parties…sometimes…hahahahaha!
@Diana:
I got to give Buddha Boy the creativity points here…I only mentioned that he should do a savory one…but how, I don’t know…and he thought of everything else…hahahahaha!
yup, there were two bite brownies in the oreo cookie version. The turkey balls I made this time were different from the first version, they were smaller, so less potatoes and more chicken. Next time, i’ll make it bigger for entree version and not so much like sample. The wings were bad this time, sorry. There were a few more things I wanted you guys to try, but i’ll do that next time.
ah Crispy, I’d like to open a restaurant one day, but i have miles to go in honing in my recipes…plus miles to go in saving up to start up.
Hehehe … that was a very creative answer, BG. 🙂 So are you going to do a couples night next? Ben
@Ben:
Indeed, we did thought of a couples night for the next M&D event. The date night was actually “requested” by one of the attendees because of two cute girls he would like to meet…”the handsome, whom not to be named” thought because I know both of the girls, they would be more comfortable dining at our house…hahahaha! That’s how it all started! But of course, I can’t really call it a “Date Night” since it would be too obvious and embarrassing…hahahahaha!
OMG hahaha BG you 出賣-ed him!
I did not mention “who”…it could be Buddha Dog y’know!!! He’s a handsome boy!!!
That’s gay!
Guilty as charged…I’m looking to meet new girls since i’ve been rejected by Elaine, she’d much prefer Eli or Crispy Jr.
grrrrrrrrrrrrrrhhhhhh…..
Wow! I’m away for a day and I miss the most comments we’ve ever received in a day lol! 🙂
Ben – haha, you’re so funny =) It was indeed a date night, Initially I was just observing, but it was easy to spot who was trying to impress who… lol
Crispy – I second your suggestion! We are in total agreement that BB should open up his own restaurant 🙂 I will warn you in advance though, Marv may be there everyday to eat chicken nuggets lol! 🙂
Diana – agreed, I enjoyed the savoury version, but had to save room for the rest of the food to come =)
BG – LOL! I didn’t want to beat you! But Marv was pushing me to post this one up RIGHT AWAY lol We are anxiously awaiting your post, your pics are much much better than ours lol =) Thanks again for having us over! We profusely apologize for the pork/beef tongs incident. We still feel bad! =(
Bahah, agreed, I think Buddha Dog was the real winner of the night 🙂 He won the attention of everyone there heehee, quite the cutie! =)
BB – yum, a bigger version sounds great! Can’t wait to sample more items =) Marv has been saying he would like you guys to try out his cooking as well! I am sensing a cook-off here! LOL jk jk =)
So THAT’S what you were doing all night instead of talking more =P Hahaha!
LOL! shhhh! =) I can’t help it, too shy.. next time I will be more lively!…(i think) =)
Just looking at all this food is making me full! Chicken balls were so good, and gravy so flavorful!
Too bad I didn’t get to try the Oreo toastbox…I wish I had self control! haha
:O :O :O :O I am in shock and awe of the three fountains of food gushing out of the toast! They look amazing!
