My friend Bao invited Marv ‘n I out for dinner one night. Surprise surprise! He ended up taking us to Sun Sui Wah on Main Street! I’ve never been to this location before, so this was a real treat for me lol! 🙂 I was quite surprised at how spacious this place was, we were greeted promptly and led to our table.
Sun Sui Wah Seafood Restaurant
3888 Main St, Vancouver BC
Tel#: (604) 872-8822
The place was still pretty empty even though it was already 6pm. After an hour rolled by, the restaurant was pretty full! Quite promising on a tuesday night! =)
Alright, looks like there was a real reason why Bao wanted to come to Sun Sui Wah, Alaskan King Crab!! lol! I’m not much of a seafood person, but I decided to be a sport and try it out. Bao swears this place makes it the best lol! I think it might be partially because he knows one of the waiters here. Service was impeccable! =)
Here’s the crab that was brought to our table. We ended up getting a smaller one since there was only the 3 of us eating tonight. We can all thank Marv for the awesomely taken picture of the crab =Þ We noticed all of the other tables got to take a picture holding the crab! Our table wasn’t given that choice =( boooo! That would’ve been a great shot! Oh wells, maybe next time! =)
We also ordered the Crab Meat Fish Maw Soup. This was very rich and flavourful. I was completely out voted on this soup lol but it turned out to be very tasty. Great choice guys! =)
Ahh, finally the main attraction of the night has arrived. We ended up getting it steamed with garlic.
Yes, it was pretty meaty and very flavourful. There was enough garlic for each piece. Conversation at the table came to a standstill as we devoured the crab lol!
We also had it done deep fried with salt/pepper/chili. I thought the steamed garlic was good, but this deep fried version was absolutely delicious! I couldn’t stop eating off of this plate lol! =) I sat at strategically the right seat, the waiter ended up placing this place right in front of me! =)
As for the shell of the crab, we opted to have Seafood Portuguese Fried Rice with it.
This was also nicely flavoured and filling. I enjoyed how it was presented inside the crab shell. The portuguese sauce was quite fragrant and had a nice curry taste to it.
We weren’t quite full yet, so we decided to get an order of the Sweet and Sour Pork Lychee. There was only a couple pieces of lychee in this. This dish was just okay, maybe we were expecting it to be spectacular like the previous dishes lol! =)
Thanks to Bao and his waiter, we were each given a complimentary dessert. The mango pudding was a nice end to the meal. They used real chunks of mango, and there was a lot of it! I ended up switching mine with Marvs cause his had more mango chunks in it! hehe thanks Marv! =)
What was the total damage for the 3 of us?? Overall, we all thought this meal was worth every penny. Everything was equally tasty(minus the sweet ‘n sour pork, but then again I might be spoiled now by pork cheeks lol!) The service was great, our plates were changed frequently and we were checked up upon often to ensure we had everything that we wanted. Servers were friendly and helped recommend dishes to try(especially the fried rice, since we weren’t sure what we wanted to do with it)
Would we come back again? Absolutely! We already want to come back again!! lol! =) I think next time we’re going to have to try the squab here, now that I’ve seen other tables with it, I am salivating for one too! Thanks again for inviting us out Bao, and getting me to try alaskan king crab! We’ll have to do it again! =)

Have the sweet and sour pork cheeks with lychee from Top Gun! Much better! LMAO BG’s recommendation!
LOL! I absolutely love that dish from top gun! I haven’t been back to revisit since the first time… but now I will have to make an effort to go again soon haha =)
How much was the AKC per pound? When we visited about 3 weeks ago, it was $16.80. Am wondering if that price still stands now that the AKC season is basically over. Oh wait … was it correct? The receipt says 03/08/11?
Ben
Hey Ben!
Yeah, it was also $16.80 when we were there. Lol! Yeah the date is correct, we were there awhile ago as well! But I’m super slow when it comes to posting current events… if it wasn’t for the option to schedule posts, I would have major gaps and sudden spurts of posts lol!
King crab! I had to settle for frozen King crab portions on sale for $9.99 at Safeway that I pulled out of my freezer this past week, sopped up some melted Becel and parsley with it – still yummy but nowhere near the royal treatment that you guys had! Wow!!
P.S. Sun Sui Wah won a Golden Plates Award for best dim sum: http://www.straight.com/goldenplates/grouping/2011/5
