The Boss Bakery & Restaurant

April 21, 2011 6:00 am / 5 Comments / 604munchies

Lately I’ve been really craving a dish at The Boss bakery.  I rounded up my dad and Marv and off to Chinatown we went!  Marv doesn’t really like going to Chinatown, he finds it a bit too dirty for his liking, but it’s not so bad!  Nonetheless, he was a sport and did join us for lunch =)

The Boss Bakery & Restaurant
532 Main St, Vancouver BC
Tel#:  (604) 683-3860

There’s always a lineup whenever we here.  I find that the display case area of the bakery is usually jam packed with people.  I guess it’s also because we usually come on the weekends around lunchtime lol!

Well, I already knew what I wanted to eat before I sat down.  The purpose of this visit was so that I could order the Shredded Chicken with Tomato Sauce.

So, I don’t know what it is about this dish, but I find it just so tasty!   Does anyone know how to replicate the  tomato sauce they use for this??  It’s more sweet than tangy…looking at the pictures are making me want to go back again!  I’ve also tried this at the Metrotown location, but the taste was completely different.

My dad went with part of the breakfast set.  He got the regular roll and Ham with Haw Fun. This was quite bland, but he was full after(he did eat before coming here though)

I’ve never really seen anyone order congee from here before…but today was a first!  Marv decided to try the Sliced Fish Congee. This was a total miss, it was extremely watery and had absolutely no taste to it.  It had a ton of white-ish flakes.  My dad decided to complain and send it back…and in exchange Marv ordered the…

Ham and Egg Sandwich. This was quite dry, and was nothing special.  He would’ve preferred having the crust on still.

Overall, it is what it is.  The congee was a complete miss, not exactly sure how they could mess that dish up so badly.  I did really enjoy my order of the spaghetti with tomato sauce though, are there any other places that also offer this dish?  I’ve heard Gloucester also makes a mean spaghetti with tomato sauce, maybe next time we’ll head over there and give it a try.   =)

Ooooh…the congee does look ugly…and the sandwich does look sad….poor Marv!!!
We were told that Cafe Gloucester has been going down hill ever since it changed hands few years ago…we have not yet been there since it was sold to its current owners, but the former manager (who happens to work at TG now) told us the food quality is not up to par…so just give you some heads up…hahahahaha!

haha yeah, it was fairly disappointing, I didn’t enjoy it.. just went to Sweet Revenge tonight and I thought that just having 1 dessert was much better than the chocolate buffet!
