It’s a friday evening and Rose suggested we head to Indian Oven for dinner! As usual, Marv ‘n I arrived quite early to the restaurant. We were able to snag a parking spot right outside on 4th Ave(this turned out to be a bad spot at the end of the night. A truck ended up backing into Marvs car! It now has a battle scar on the front bumper >_< ) It’s been awhile since I’ve had indian food, so this was a great choice! I was really looking forward to this dinner date all week!

We had reservations, but when Marv ‘n I walked in at 6, the place was pretty empty except for 1 other table. The place ended up filling up rather quickly! By the time we ordered our meal, the restaurant was almost full! We noticed they also did a lot of take out orders as well.
And I ordered a Mango Lassi(above right). This was mixed with yogurt and turned out to be quite sweet. I liked this drink a lot, it tasted very ‘mango-ey.’
As we waited for Rose to arrive, Marv ‘n I were pretty hungry! So we decided to order the Vegetable Pakora to tide us over. This was fried nicely, each piece was still crispy once we bit into it. The sauce to dip was sweet and was a nice contrast to the pakora. I almost wanted to order another one! =)
Above left is the regular Naan Bread that came with the butter chicken special. Above right is the Garlic Naan that we decided to try. I enjoyed the garlic naan best. The pieces were quite big with a generous amount of garlic ‘n herbs.
Rose decided to try the Spinach Naan. This was stuffed with spinach and cheese. I found this to have a really strong cheese smell to it.
The rice(which also came with the butter chicken) was very plain. I think we all ended up concentrating on naan instead.
Since Marv was very hungry, he decided to order the Tandoori Chicken(full size). This was served on a sizzling hot plate.
Rose and Marv ended up ordering the Butter Chicken. If you can see on the outside picture of the place, there is a board that says the Butter Chicken is on special. It comes with rice and naan for $15.00. All the other dishes do not come with naan or rice.
Yes, Marv also wanted the Aloo Gobi. This is cauliflower and potatoes meshed with tomatoes and herbs. I found this to be my favourite of the night. It was very tasty, and the potatoes were delish! 🙂
For my meal, I ordered the Madrasi Chicken. This is cooked with coconut and mixed spices. Originally I was going to get the vindaloo, but decided against it since I’m such a weakling when it comes to spicy foods lol! This was much more suited to my tastes. It was sweet and NOT SPICY. I enjoyed eating this with the garlic naan.
Overall, we found the portion sizes to be quite small. Had Marv not ordered other dishes, I probably wouldn’t have been full from just the Madrasi. The waitresses were taking bets to see if Marv could finish everything lol! He was quite confident that he could, but by the end of the night, only 1 drum of chicken and a small portion of his butter chicken remained. I think we did quite well in finishing as much as we could. Ended up with only 1 container of leftovers =)
