I’ve been eating at prata man for as long as I can remember. The lunch menu here is quick, simple and the price is average for lunch. There seems to be a lot of people who still eat here for lunch and we dropped by to give it a go. But what I don’t understand is why they don’t revamp the place and replace all those sticky tables……….=(

The interior has surely been cleaned since my last visit. As for the tables, not as sticky. LOL And what else is new, oh yeah….the price went up by $2, which again, is normal.
Our lunch set comes with barley drinks and you can have the option of either having it served chilled or warm. We picked chilled.
Hainan chicken and rice was also in our combo. The rice is fragrant but not as good as BB’s version. The chicken was the same. Kinda lacking in flavor and not really the bounciest chicken texture around.
The sauce they give has rather gone lesser in taste as well. The curry chicken we ordered separately, this comes with a rice bowl as well, we found the chicken pieces to be rather decent and the curry was a bit spicy for Colleen. I found it not spicy enough and rather oily.
Part of the combo was also mee goreng. It is cooked fresh and its still the same as when I first had it years ago. A big portion for only $5! a cheap deal indeed. Tasty and unique to most other mee gorengs else where.
We got both chicken and pork satay sticks also as part of the combo. Chicken is nice and tender as too the pork. I really enjoy eating this version of satay sticks here. I think its just well spiced and retains the flavor very well. The peanut sauce on the side is also decent. Peanutty!

Hi Marv, thats a fairly decent combo meal you had there. Its been a while since I last ordered from Prata Man. I just order their chicken and rice to go. Haven’t really tried anything else. But with the dishes you ordered, I’m now having a craving for the satay sticks. BTW, how much was the combo? I’m guessing its for 2 people.
Hey Crispy,
The combo has increased in price, it’s now $18 for set A or B for 2 people. The satay sticks were yummy, I always get the chicken and pork since the beef is kinda tough. I also used to order the whole hainan chicken to go and it was always a generous portion of chicken and rice, but you need to purchase extra sauce because they only give you a tiny amount. If you’re like me, I need lots of sauce!! =]
Marv,
This place has been around for ages, I’ve wanted to try this place over 10 years ago, but I never heard good things about this place. For $5 mee goreng, that sounds pretty good bang for the buck. I’m also a satay sticks whore, how much are they here? I can eat almost a dozen at coco hut. So, you’d recommend a visit here then, i’m going to have to take BG here, i’ll warn her about sticky tables…hehehehe. Thanks for the compliments on the rice, i can give you the recipe if you’d like. I think I ruined our miu garden expectations of the rice since it didn’t have as much flavour as the time you guys came over.
Hey BB!
The $5 is the best deal on the entire menu! Don’t bother with the seafood version as it’s not that special. I also love satay sticks!! I can eat at least 2 dozen on my own, I didn’t even want to share the above with Colleen! In Penang, you can order it, and they will make it for you fresh in a hawker stall, one of the things I enjoyed growing up.
The food is average, I’d recommend it as I’ve been eating here for years now, and for the price it’s not bad(in richmond)…it’s cash only btw!
Noo, I do not want your recipe for hainan chicken rice, because I’d rather have you make it for us!! 😀 haha, plus Colleen won’t stop bugging me to make her it if you give me the recipe =]
I’ve been here since the beginning of time too! I thought the tables were already sticky a long time ago! I haven’t ate there in a while, but I have done take out for chicken sometimes. I was trying to figure out which restaurant BB was so I could try the Hainan chicken rice, but turns out it was Buddha Boy.. lol! I’ll have to remember to ask for the recipe
LOL! BB does make a killer hainan chicken rice!! Well, so far a lot of the things we’ve tried have been really good, can’t wait till they open up a restaurant! 😀
