Saffron

I’ve been craving Indian food a lot lately!  It seems the visit to Indian Oven wasn’t good enough to satisfy my Indian food fix.  We were originally planning to head downtown for some eats, but traffic was insanely busy dt/northshore, etc.  SO we opted to head to Burnaby to get my Indian fix 🙂

I’ve been to Saffron several times and I’ve enjoyed each visit, so I figured Marv would probably like this place as well!  He had never been here before, but he was game to try it out =)

We were promptly greeted and seated in the dimly lit restaurant.  Marv chose the table farthest away from other dining patrons as he knew we’d have to use flash for our obscene picture taking lol 🙂

We received our glasses of water and Papadams to nibble on while we looked over the menu.  This crisp thin cracker was accompanied with a refreshing mint chutney.

We decided to start with the Veggie Pakora. This was a much better version than Indian Oven.  The pieces were bigger and much crispier.  Portion-wise it also beat out Indian Oven.

Next out was the Garlic Naan(above left) and the Chicken Korma(above right). The garlic naan was piping hot and fragrant.  Once it cooled down enough to touch/eat, it was soft and chewy.  The chicken korma was the best dish of the night!  The sauce was thick and creamy and not at all spicy.  It went very well with the garlic naan.

Out next came the Aloo Gobi(above left) and the Butter Lamb(above right)  The aloo gobi is a mixture of cauliflower and potato.  This had a very different taste than the chicken korma and butter lamb.  I enjoyed this dish mainly because…..yes the potatoes lol =)   The butter lamb was a nice change from the usual butter chicken.  There was not much of a gamy taste to it.  Marv enjoyed this dish, but wished it had more pieces of meat lol.

Overall, the food was pretty solid.  Portions were bigger than the previous places we’ve visited.  I’ve never tried out the lunch buffet here, is it worth checking out??
