The Reef

Right after indulging at Sweet Revenge, it is now time to have dinner.  Colleen has been here once before but it was only for drinks, while I’ve been coming to the reef for many years now.  However, its been awhile since my last visit I’m now past due lol.  Last time I was here they had a super yummy dish, it was the mussels in curry sauce.  Oh so good!  So I always look for it on the chalk board, unfortunately today it was not available.

We got lucky to miss out on the earlier crowd due to Colleen’s quick thinking.  Having dessert first does pay off but I did want to be able to eat more instead of being already full.  As usual we got greeted and seated very quickly.  Lucky again for us!  As soon as we got seated a huge group appeared from behind us and they needed to move tables together for them.

I already knew what I wanted to order but kept on muling over the jerk chicken or goat………….After we ordered our waitress brought us over some Johnny Cakes.  Deep fried dough is always welcome on the table.

Next came our appies…..Plantain Chips and Yardie Yam Fries.  The banana chips were nice and crunchy, awesome with the dip.  And the yam fries were massive, think cut and not soggy at all.

Since Colleen was already some what full from her dessert(AHEM!) she only wanted something small and to share.  The Mission Tacos she ordered were filled with the jamaican jerk chicken and it too was very tasty.  Topped off with fresh tomatoes and lettuce, the tacos were quite filling.  I’m not much of an expert with jamaican spices here but I would definitely recommend their jerk chicken dish.

For my main course I went with the Maracas Bay Mahi – Coconut/Lime curry mahi……a very generous portion of the fish.  Perfectly seared mahi on top of a bed of coconut infused long grain rice with a cooling cho cho ‘n apple slaw.  I found the rice to be very aromatic and a good balance to accompany the fish.

Overall our experience with the reef have never been anything less than that of a friendly neighborhood joint.  Good food and good service, but come early or come later.
