Koto Izakaya

Continuing on from Han Ju, Rose decided to go to Koto Izakaya for the 2nd part of our dinner.  Lol!  I have never been here before, and have always driven by it.  I think what deterred me the most is the tiny parking lot which seems to always look full.  Yes, amount of parking affects where I choose to go sometimes.

Koto Izakaya Sushi & Robata
#101-8171 Alexandra Road, Richmond BC
Tel#:  (604) 278-4601

The place is fairly small, the seats feel pretty private with the wooden backings/walls/dividers in between.  I enjoy this kind of seating the most.  I don’t like having other customers staring at what food you order lol!

Inside we were greeted and seated promptly.  Our tea was brought to the table just as we were sitting down.  Our waitress was very friendly and quite chatty.  It was a bit dark in the place, I was a bit weary in using flash for my pictures lol, I don’t like attracting attention or bothering other diners =)

Rose started off with the Gomae(above left).   This was light, and not overly drenched in sauce.  It was a generous portion.  Alright, Rose swears by this roll shown above right.  It is the California Roll. She swears this one is much tastier than any other place she’s tried!

Next to the table was the Prosuitto Roll. Cream cheese, mango and unagi wrapped with prosuitto!   I gotta admit, this was a tasty roll!  Had I not been full already, I would’ve probably ate all of it!  The cream cheese did not overpower the rest of the ingredients, instead it nicely complimented the mango and prosuitto.  I would definitely order this again next time!

Last but not least, the Mr. Crazy Roll. This also had cream cheese, crab meat,  and spicy tuna all deep fried with panko drizzled with unagi sauce.  This was also very tasty!  It was nicely crisp and not at all oily.  The tuna was soft and went well with the sauce.  I also enjoyed this dish.

Overall, I found the food and service pretty solid at Koto Izakaya.  I will definitely be revisiting and giving other items a try!  Great recommendation Rose! =)

Thanks for the heads up Derek! I’ll be sure to check out their late night menu next time. Might have to pass on the salmon on the beach… I’m not a fan of salmon lol! 🙂
