It’s one of those days where you just want a fried chicken. And I insisted that I would grab the chicken and in being able to do so, grab enough to last till the next day. lol So before I headed over to Colleen’s house for dinner and a movie I stopped by at my neighborhood Church’s chicken. =)

I’m fortunate enough to live close enough to the one of only two Church’s chicken in Richmond. Can you believe that, there’s only 2!
There really isn’t anything new when it comes to Church’s chicken. Good quality pieces and crispy fried just the way it should be. So I ordered the family combo, even thou there was only the 2 of us eating, and it comes with a large order of fries and gravy. I also ordered a side coleslaw for Colleen as it is her favorite thing to eat from church’s.
The coleslaw was ok. Maybe its been in the fridge for a while I don’t know, but it was still good thou. I liked the flavour of it.
I find that the chicken pieces from church’s are a lot bigger than those of kfc…especially when you get their original recipe, those pieces are tiny!!
Now lets be honest here, once you take a bite into the chicken it is rather oily. Yeah I know, I ‘heart’ trans-fats! lol But the best way to remove the excess oil and to even make the chicken crunchier is this………place the chicken pieces in the oven at temp 400deg, the let it sit in there for about 20mins or so. Less oil and crunchier. =)
The gravy was soso, not super tasty or nothing. kinda plain really. I do like their fries. Crinkle cut!
All in all, the crispy skin of the chicken is what keeps me coming back for more! I could eat all the skin and no meat if they’d sell it like that! LOL

Thats a good tip on removing excess oil. Im gonna try that. I guess you place them on top of a rack on a baking sheet.
