This place came highly recommended by Colleen’s boss. And we were up for anything delicious. So! I don’t know how quite to say this, but this place has a really good cook who takes care of the ingredients and prepares it professionally good. And super friendly, its nice to meet the chef who will be cooking your dinner in front of you, that was a treat on its own. Now, before you start thinking about visiting this place I must warn you, it took us just about two hours to get here and a really good GPS. lol
Once we made our way into the restaurant, Colleen and I were both taken a back as to how tiny and intimate this place was, I felt uncomfortable because everyone was staring at the both of us. Like all conversations can be heard by everyone, no lie. lol Only a very few things on the menu, who am I kidding, there are two things on the menu. hahahaha. but it made our choice very simple. We took one of each and had ourselves a little treat.
First we started with the cream earl grey tea. Its a very nice blend with a subtle rich texture to it. We felt it a nice touch to have that cute little strainer.
Then came our bread basket. A very generous amount of bread and the butter accompaniment was delicious. I tasted a hint of tarragon if I’m not mistaken. We both enjoyed this very much and was contemplating about whether we could purchase a whole loaf for us to take home.
Then after just a while our soup and salad came together. I was more than overlooking into the prep work that was going into the salad. So much ingredients for such a simple dish. And it was well worth the flavor mix. I especially enjoyed the shredded beats. Such a fresh, sweet flavor to it.
The cornish hen soup was very delicate yet rich. Not like those you get from stores or anything like that, this was something boiled from scratch with the freshest ingredients and it probably took a whole days worth of prep work and rendering. You can really appreciate the effort that went into this soup. I was very happy and impressed.
Next came our Basil Pesto/Roasted Red Pepper Rotini. It was so cool how the rotini was being boiled from scratch like into the boiling pot of water so close to me, and the chef was very informative, “your pasta is about 10mins away” ahahaha now that’s rockstar treatment. hahaha. I know you think I’m probably over selling this place but in reality, how often do you get this kind of service and connection with a chef? Hardly ever in this new age of fast foods and rushed dinning. And when you do get this type of service, your looking at a very expensive bill at the end.
Lets just say this, once the pasta arrived we were both blown away as to the depth of flavor that was in each piece of pasta. Like I literally ate mine per piece and it was phenomenal. It wasn’t drenched in sauce or covered in some form oil or anything like that, I mean look at the picture. Nice and clean, very healthy and decadent. It was incredible how he managed to infused such a rich taste to it.
We couldn’t resist not ordering up their rhubarb crumble. It was fresh rhubarb grown out of their back garden area and the tartness of it complimented the sweetness of the crumble for sure. Not to mention the fresh dense whip cream topping. I have to say that it was the best whip cream to this date that I have ever had.
I only wished this guy would open up a restaurant here closer to home. I must admit thou, the drive itself became worth it after the meal. My one complaint is that his menu was very limited, I would have truly loved to sample more of his cooking and maybe learn more from him just by watching. Thank you very much to KJ for recommending this place. We both had a really good experience to add to our meal adventures.
