Once again featuring the awesome cooking skills of Food For Buddha it is time for our get together dinner. This time around we had a theme, Japanese………..not that we are anything familiar with japanese cooking but both BB and I have experimented our fair share of this particular cuisine. LOL BB and BG started us off with some edamame and shrimp sunomono. I’m not a fan of snunomonos in general so Colleen took my bowl and I only tried a few pieces of the edamame peas.
Next we have some gomaae and home made oden. There wasn’t enough sauce for the gomaae, but I like eating everything drenched in sauce! The oden was pleasant and I enjoy oden anyways so I’m rather bias here.
Here we have some chawamushi and chicken karaage. The chawamushi was rather bland but it still held its own. And as for the chicken karaage, BB is really good at this deep frying chiken thing. LMAO
BB and BG also stopped by to pick up some fresh sashimi, so for this particular combo we have here tako, hokkigai and ahi tuna. No complaints, I ate em all real fast. Big fan of sashimi here.
And because of both of us recently visited Kingyo for its tonkatsu lunch set, BB gave us his version here. To be honest, I really liked it. This dish was so good, I requested more and even had it to go!
What made this this dish extra special was that FFB provided us with a little sesame squisher of our own hahahaa Next to it is your chicken teriyaki with veggies. YES veggies! lol
Here we have a couple of my bbq items…….I decided to marinade up some miso chicken skewers and pork belly with hints of secret spices mainly infused with cumin. Naturally the cumin doesn’t make the pork red so hence the secret stuff but in term of its flavor, it is very consistent with the guy at the night market and his lamb skewers. The miso chicken turned out really soso, you can taste the miso but not enough in my opinion, I would have wanted to use the red miso but I only had the reg available.
By the end of our meal BB still had some surprises for us. He went into the kitchen and started making us some fresh takoyaki! with his very own, tokoyaki maker. I know! its pretty kool huh!
Last but not least. Fresh watermelon to satisfy my thirst lol…….nono, I’m not dying of thirst, I just like watermelon juice is all. hahahaha
Also on the side we have here a couple of choices for chocolate pieces and a sponge cheese cake.
These chocolate pieces are from that little store inside izumiya. Give em a try you won’t regret! Colleen also wanted to add in a dessert item and she decided on an apple pie from breka down by Fraser and 49th. It’s another local pastries and cake shop that is open 24hrs for all you late nighters.
Overall our dinner was once again TOO MUCH FOOD TO HANDLE! hahahaha I don’t bring enough food and BB has to always prepare much more. 🙁 Don’t fret, our next theme has already been decided and we all can’t wait to stuff our faces once more.
