This dinner was organized by none other than our favorite commenter Crispy Lechon and his family, which during the dinner I still referred him to as Crispy, LOL So on behalf of Colleen and myself, I would like to thank you for inviting us to join in tonight.
Check out Food For Buddha’s post here!
We were a bit late coming to dinner, everybody was already inside waiting for us and we took our time getting there because I was assuming filipino time and we all know that means an hour or so late, lol but not this time. So we got there exactly at 7 and we were the last ones to arrive… Sorry guys! Anyways, introductions were done and the menu ordering was handed over to Crispy to hook us up with our dinner items.
Up here we got palabok. I must admit, my mom’s version is still the best. So there. Bias much! To the right we have bopis and dinuguan, I’m not a fan of both dishes for these very reasons, I don’t wana know whats in them. lol Just kidding! Bopis is pork lungs and hearts all minced up and cooked in a stir fried manner which is a normal pulutan dish (meal with beer) and this is what people eat late at night as a snack-ish.
Dinuguan is even better! It’s a mix of pork innards and its sauce is the actual pork blood itself rendered down. LOL SO there, honestly though, give it a try and it is delicious. Have it with some puto and you can make it through more than a couple of spoons worth. LOL
Both these dishes are a very traditional filipino and they are both delicious to eat. Of course once you describe the ingredients it would deter other people but we’re asian and we eat anything and everything.
This here is their version of fried rice, which is mixed with shrimp paste (bago-ong) I thought it was just right, not over powering yet still had its fragrance from the shrimp paste. Next to it is our order of bbq pork sticks. It’s basically a sweet type marinade/basting sauce and it was surprisingly yummy. A generous portion at that too.
Here we have some lumpia shanghai. These were just fillers, nothing special. A generous portion though for the price. And on the right is my all time favourite, crispy pata. I think this portion is really small and there really was more bone than meat. An honest opinion would be that this was a fairly made pata and I just thinks it needs to be fried a bit longer for more of a crispy texture to it.
This blurry picture up top is a grilled jaw of tuna. Kinda like the fish cheek area there. A very basic salt base marinade, nothing special. Next to it is a beef caldereta which I ordered because I was craving a tomato sauce dish, what I originally wanted was a menudo but they don’t make it here. So we move on. Oh, the flavor of the caldereta was so-so, I’ve had better.
We ordered a buko pandan for dessert and its not even as close to being as good as the one in pinpin. Next to it is a ube cake, I didn’t try this because I don’t like cakes. LOL but the consensus on the table was that it was aiiiight.
This is their version of halo-halo, Its nice to have all the fancy stuff on top and this is a treat because of all the fancy stuff on top. Got some custard and ube ice cream…….fancy. Also on the side we ordered up some ube ice cream, which for the price I could have gone across the street to buy a tub of it.
Overall we had a blast eating together and tons of laughter was held by all. We didn’t get a chance to talk much to Crispy because he was all the way on the other side of the table but we substituted for Crispy Jr instead and we all had more in common than we thought. Our next gathering is coming up soon and this time I’m sure will hold more laughter and fun for all.
