Rose ‘n I decided to head to Kerrisdale for dinner one night. She was craving sashimi as she had just came back from Hawaii. We ended up at Ajisai. It’s a bit hidden as it’s sandwiched in between buildings and an alley, I did not know there was a parking lot just around the corner. I ended up feeding the meters on 41st lol 🙂

The restaurant is pretty small, Rose had already ordered a bottle of Asahi to start. As such, we decided to share a bottle of sake as well.
The waitress was very helpful when we were trying to decide which one we wanted. She was quite knowledgeable as to which would suit our taste for the evening.
We decided to start off with Gomae. Despite the picture, there was an ample amount to share between the 2 of us. The sauce was light and flavourful and did not feel drenched.
Next up came the Assorted Sashimi. The sashimi is pretty fresh here, you can definitely notice the difference in quality from regular ayce restaurants. We also decided to get a variety of nigiri and rolls.
We enjoyed how there wasn’t an excess amount of rice attached to each one. Each piece of nigiri was not thinly cut, we thought this was a nice change.
Toro Don was my order. This practically melted in my mouth as I ate it. I had a hard time deciding between a couple of rice dishes and am glad that I went with the toro don!
Overall, you can definitely taste the difference in sashimi compared to the mundane ayce places. I enjoyed dining at Ajisai and will definitely be back again when I’m in the area. I gotta admit, Kerrisdale isn’t an area where I venture to often, but Ajisai will surely make me become a more frequent visitor.
