Tropika

We met up with Colleen’s friend Bao for dinner in Richmond and decided to give this place another try.  Our last dining experience here left us rather 50/50 …. I mean, our dinner last time racked up $80 for just 2 people and we were both still hungry.  I kid you not.  So this time just to prove a point, we needed to have a witness.  LOL

Tropika

And once again they gave us the blue lawn chair table in the corner because we didn’t have a reservation, fair enough.

Bao was rather thirsty and ordered himself a coke.  WOW! Where can you get those tiny airline sizes cups? We asked for a coke, not half a coke. Jeeez, so stingy!

And here we have their roti canai,2 orders!  YES!  This is 2 orders!  It looks like we have to cut it up into tiny pieces so every one gets a taste………………..And as far as taste goes, I’d rather get the frozen ones from T&T or something and cook ’em up myself for like the same price I can get 5 normal sized pieces.

“Objects may appear larger than they appear……” tiny tiny midget size pieces of chicken satay sticks here. Flavor was soso and the pieces were a mix of tough chewy and dry flaky.  We only ordered half a dozen.  Should have ordered 3 dozen at tamarind hill for take out instead…..

This is their sad version of fried hokkien mee.  Once again, a very small portion and not enough of anything in it.  Taste wise, I can’t remember, enough said.

We ordered 3 bowls of their coconut rice, there was really no fragrance to it or coconut flavor at all.  Top right we have an order of kari ayam (chicken curry) Just look how tiny this portion is, really!  Lots of bone, not enough meat to feed us and as far as the flavor goes, its average food court standards.

Final thing to arrive was an order of sambal clams.  The sauce was nice and tasty.  A good rich flavor to it with a hint of sambal.  As far as the clams go, they didn’t taste very fresh and this dish was once again, tiny!

Overall our dinner continued upstairs in the food court as I ordered up half a dozen deep fried chicken wings/curry fish balls/tea eggs/2 ice lemon tea.  And Bao added a dessert crepe.  Total cost @ Tropika, TOO MUCH!  Total cost @ food court was $20 and yes, we were full after that.   I’d like to ask the owner of the restaurant to stop bowling and spend some time with the kitchen staff and work out the reasons why your restaurant is empty 5 days a week.
