Ahh Jethro’s. This place has been on my radar for awhile but was always a bit out of the way for me. This time I made it a point to head down to Dunbar and give it a try. Joining me this time is Rose! When I got there, I was surprised by how hard it was to find parking! The side streets are extremely narrow especially since both sides have cars parked along them. Thankfully I have a small car, if I had been driving a suv, I’d be a nervous wreck trying to maneuver through there!

Once I found parking, I made my way over to the front of the restaurant. It’s very unassuming, I probably would’ve never noticed this place had I not googled the streetview! Yes, streetviews sure come in handy nowadays! I was surprised to see quite a few people waiting outside the restaurant for a table on a tuesday morning, we ended up having to wait for a table to free up.
Once we stepped inside, we noticed how small this place is. No wonder there was a wait, but then again, the food must be good in order for people to be standing around in the cold, or even to fight through the tiny side streets for a spot! =)
We both needed a cup of coffee to start the day while we perused the menu, so our waitress brought a couple of cups over. I had already decided what I wanted to order before I got there, but once I browsed through the menu and seeing other peoples order arrive, I changed my mind. Above right, Rose wanted a side of avocado, so they served it on a plate for her.
Rose decided on their Eggs Benedict(above left) which was served with hashbrowns. I decided to go with their 2 eggs with sausage served with hashbrowns and toast. I was surprised by how much food there was on the plates. As we were eating, I began to see pancakes coming out of the kitchen…and my eyes went HUGE. We had also placed an order for their pancakes.. as we were almost 1/2 way through our breakfast, the pancakes came..
Oh dear, we did not expect the pancakes to be this big! We had decided to share an order of pancakes on top of our breakfast. I guess I should’ve paid more attention to other tables beforehand. We had decided to get The Rooster which is a shot of espresso and dark chocolate chips folded in their buttermilk pancakes topped with a mountain of whipped cream. We also added their chocolate gravy which arrived piping hot to the table. If you thought 1 pancake was big… it actually comes with TWO fluffy pancakes. We were already pretty full from our breakfast, but decided we had to have a taste of this while we were here. It was pretty soft, not dry and definitely not mushy. There was enough whipped cream to help moisten up the pancake that I found the chocolate gravy to be unnecessary.
Overall, we both were quite pleased with Jethro’s and would definitely be back again for another visit. Yes, we ended up having to take 3/4 of this order home! They also write on the box to let you know to reheat it in the oven as it’ll come out nicely crisp. Love it! 🙂
Okay, that was not the end of this post. I had to come back for another visit in the same week! This time I brought Marv with me so he could see how gigantic the pancakes are! I learned from the last time to get there early to avoid a wait! This time we arrive possibly 10 mins after the place opened and snagged up a table. Not even 10 mins later, there was already a lineup outside the restaurant! Phew! We made it just in time 🙂
This time I decided to get a Cranberry Juice instead of coffee! I know, I’m as shocked as you are! Marv decided to give their Corned Beef Hash which was topped with poached eggs and toast. Although the portion was a LOT smaller than both Rose and my order from our first visit, Marv thought it was delicious!
Don’t worry, I didn’t make the same mistake twice! This time, I only ordered pancakes for my meal. I had originally wanted the Strawberries ‘n Cream, but they were out of strawberries, so they said they could substitute it for blueberries. I love blueberries! So switching was perfectly fine with me. This again came with a mountain of whipped cream on top. I happily dived into the fluffy pancakes and tried to eat as much as I could! Unfortunately I didn’t even get close to 1/4 of the way through! Marv helped me out with 1/4 before he was stuffed! This time, we ended up having to bring 3/4 of this order home which I heated up in the oven later that night and STILL was unable to finish it!
Overall, for this visit, Marv ‘n I also enjoyed dining here. Service comes with a smile, I was surprised there was only 1 server working in the morning considering the place was packed by 8:20! Definitely props to her for keeping things running smoothly. I’d definitely be a regular here if it was closer to home. For now, it’ll have to be a once in a while type of place for us.

After watching their episode on TV, I’ve been wanting to go but not enough reviews to see if it’s a place to try-I’m disappointed with a bunch of the places they decided to film here.
I want to try the Strawberries and Cream..I hope I get strawberries when I go!
Hey Gloria! 🙂
Darn, I still haven’t been able to catch that episode yet…when did it air??
Yeah, when I heard the list of places that they were visiting…my first reaction was ‘huh?? why those places?’
