Original Joes

January 18, 2012 6:00 am / 2 Comments / 604munchies

After our UN-satisfying dinner at Ebisu on broadway, we headed down to Original Joes which was only about a block away.  Parking on broadway was less than ideal and even though there is a parking lot around back for original joes, we were lucky enough to snag a spot half a block before we got there.

So in the spirit of Mexico, I wanted to eat a bit more of the tacos or even nachos.  And after looking through the menu, I knew exactly what I wanted to eat and drink.

To follow the order of drinks above we have a gin and tonic, beer and a mojito.  When it first arrived, I was rather disappointed because it lacked everything, flavor of mint, the hint of sweetness and strength of the alcohol.  So after I sent it back to get it re-done it was a bit better but still, nothing impressive about it.  Following drink to arrive was a sangria, and this was also a fail.  Let’s just say it tasted really off.

So here is what I decided to get, fish tacos!  YES and how was the taste, we couldn’t really tell why it was grounded up fish meat.  I was expecting a few whole pieces of the fish but instead we got mushy pieces and it just wasn’t flavored enough.  Good thing for the hot sauce and salsa dip on the side.

Colleen decided on a dessert item and this was the chocolate mudpie.  It is a gigantic portion of pie(2 pieces to be exact), well more than enough for 3 people to share and it is very tasty.  Hearty and rich in both texture and flavor.  I also had a few bites of this and it was pretty darn good.  I couldn’t resist!

Other than that our waitress was a bit grumpy and became super friendly once I asked for the bill, typical.

    Hi Marv,

Thanks for taking the time to review our Cambie location. It’s great to hear you enjoyed the dirt pie but it sounds like a few of the other items let you down.

We appreciate the honest feedback and I’ll be sure to let the team know.

    Thanks again.

Thanks Jeff for taking the time out to stop by our blog and reply to our post. I’m glad it has been well received. We’ve been to the Original Joe’s in Richmond several times and have always had great service and food quality has always been fairly good. We were a bit disappointed that this location turned out to be the opposite of our previous visits.

      Cheers,
