Both Colleen and I are on vaca this week and so we have all this time to do what people who don’t work for a living do and give that lifestyle a try. LOL I always wonder how people can sit at starbucks for like hours upon hours and do nothing but chat or pretend to be so into their laptops that they are so concentrated about it and can’t notice others walking by around them. Which is one of our projects for this week, that’s right! We are going to various coffee shops and sitting in there for a least 30mins LOL. Moving on. Driving around and being bored outta our minds, we decided to visit Oakridge but lapped the entire mall in like 10 mins, still bored we decided to grab some lunch in kerrisdale.
Ajisai Sushi Bar

Wow, let’s just say that this place is expensive. And I’m not one to be cheap about food. But seriously though? How can they set their prices this high? But due to Colleen’s previous visit and great review, I was encouraged to try out their lunch menu.
Upon entering I immediately noticed how tiny this place is. And although the lunch crowd was more of office take-out we got seated next to an old asian couple who was very entertaining later on…..
The ordering process was left to me and I did decide quickly enough but not quickly enough to have the lady come ask me twice if I was ready to order or not, boo, slow poke.
So here we go, I started with Toro Sashimi. And man was this fresh. But $20 worth for some tiny little slices of freshness? I don”t think so. Over charge much? I mean, yes, the fish is fresh and let’s be honest here. But I understand the whole “freshness” thing cause Ive been involved in the commercial aspect of it from the boats to the docks to the buying/bidding, freezing and boxing and even stacking those heavy ass 100lbs boxes of ice. All I’m saying is that over pricing sucks.
And after we ate our small portion of toro, we were greeted by our next order of unagi battera and futomaki!
I’m a huge fan of futomaki because I particularly like the sweet soy mushrooms included in the mix =] and this portion was not so bad because they are pretty filling and massive.
The pressed unagi was a fail for me. There was no point in pressing it because there was nothing inside of it but some slivers of green onion, I couldn’t even take a picture because I could even see it on the plate. The unagi was tasty though. Too much rice for my liking and that pretty much ruined it for me.
Overall, lunch was $50 worth for 2 rolls and a sashimi dish. Expensive YES! worth it? NO! I will never eat here again because there are far other more superior and better sushi restaurants out there that I would gladly spend $50 for lunch any day.
