Motomachi Shokudo

Nothing to do late at night and we got really bored from watching tv so we called up our friend Will who has just returned from his trip to korea and asked if he’d like to join us for some ramen downtown.  I’ve never been here before so this was something I was really looking forward to trying.  And it did not disappoint me at all.

Motomachi Shokudo
740 Denman St, Vancouver BC
Tel#:  (604) 609-0310

Just a few steps pass another famous ramen place is Motomachi.  This restaurant is annoyingly small for this location and well, I hate sharing tables.  So of course we got seated in the communal table and not only was that annoying enough, the waiter had to ask a person to move over a spot (when he was already eating his noodle) so that the 3 of us could fit in there.  I took the chance to thank the person for moving once we got seated and he was very kind to do so.  So if your reading this, THANK YOU once more.

So, I quickly realize how hot it got all of the sudden, think sauna!  I was itching to take my hoody off  but Colleen suggested we share an ice cold beer quicks!  LOL  Will got himself an ice tea drink instead.  No liquor Will?

But just before we ordered up our ramens, I sneaked in an order of  a chasui rice bowl with the drinks.  I found this order to be super tiny but delicious nonetheless.

We all knew what to order already as there really isn’t much to choose from on their menu.  I got myself the charcoal ramen.  I had never had this type of broth before and was super curious as to how it will taste like.  So after my first sip I instantly knew that this would be a classic, a repeat on my list for sure.  A nice rich dense flavored broth with a ton of ramen to go with it.  So yummy.  And did anyone notice the size of the chasui piece that’s sitting on top of my noodle?  It is gigantic!  Very generous indeed.  Was it also flavorful you ask?  I think the broth was overpowering everything else in this bowl for me to notice any flavor change but it didn’t matter.  I liked the broth too much to care.

Colleen got herself a Miso Ramen.   The broth was also flavourful, not too salty.  As you can see in the picture above, there was a ton of ramen in this bowl as well!  I didn’t think she would be able to finish it, but she did!

Will got himself a Spicy Miso Ramen.  Doesn’t it look really spicy??  Will liked this a lot better than Benkei Ramen on Thurlow.  If you enjoy spicy ramen, this is the item to get!

Overall our dining experience was kinda neat.  I got to try something different and enjoyed it very much.  I think I found myself a ramen place that I would suggest to people and frequent myself.
