Another steakhouse? Yes, Marv definitely can’t pass up on visiting any steakhouses he comes across. This time we headed downtown after work to check out Players Chophouse right outside of BC Place. Parking in this area is all metered. Make sure you have tons of coins available! Although lately, pay-by-phone becoming pretty handy too.

Upon entering the place, it was fairly empty. I guess it was a weeknight, and was a bit dreary outside. We were greeted and led to a small table by the window. I would’ve definitely preferred a booth seat(considering the place was pretty empty), but I guess those were more suited for parties of 6. With that said, our table was not up to par. I don’t know about you, but I don’t normally lean on the table after I’m seated. I placed my order of a beer(see below), and once the server placed the beer on the table, Marv had placed his arms onto the table and the ENTIRE TABLE tilted to the point that my beer slide across the entire table and luckily we managed to catch it before it fell off! Well… apparently the table was a bit(no, a LOT) short on 1 of the legs. The server went to get something to prop up our table leg.. in fact he needed to go away twice to get more things to prop up our table. Once he was able to get the wobbling down to slanted level, he then decides to ask if we would like to change tables. Wouldn’t it have made more sense to ask us to change tables before the awkwardness of us sitting there as he’s crawling around under our table shoving things around and shuffling the table into us? /rant.
After the table fiasco, I definitely needed my beer but unfortunately by then it was not cold anymore. I don’t know about you, but I enjoy my beer ice cold! Alright, enough ranting, onto the food! I saw the side of Macaroni & Cheese on the menu and knew I had to order it! It was a fairly large portion with a ton of cheese layered on top.
Another thing we had to order was the Pulled Pork Poutine. Unfortunately they had run out of pulled pork and could only serve us the poutine portion. As such, it was only mediocre. We definitely could’ve done without ordering this dish. To the right is my order of the New York Strip & Steak Frites. The steak was cooked well, and my fries(the ones not covered by the steak) were nicely crisp.
Marv decided to go with the Prime Rib served with a Yorkshire pudding. The prime rib was cooked well, but the pudding was too dry.
Overall, we left Players Chophouse pretty disappointed in terms of service and food. I find the service sets the mood for the evening and unfortunately that left us with a bad taste before the food even arrived to the table. I think we’ll stick to Hy’s or Onyx for Marvs steak-fix!
