Bonchaz Bakery Cafe

Please note:  We did not pay for this meal, it was courtesy of Vaneats & Bonchaz.  Our opinions have not been altered.

We were graciously invited to try out the SUPER BONCHAZ deal by VANEATS.CA this past week, and I was super excited to accept.  Truth is, I’ve been wanting to give this place a try ever since they opened up a location on Broadway and Main.  Now’s our chance!

We made our way down after work one cold day and looked forward to their soup portion of the deal.  Upon entering the place, we were warmly greeted, I felt extremely welcome and already knew I would want to come back again to visit.  Included in the deal are 3 items for only $6.50!  Quite a steal in our opinion.  You get a bonchaz, a sandwich and a soup!

Now you might be wondering what a bonchaz is??  It’s actually an oven baked milk bun topped with a crisp golden crust.  At first glance it looks like it’d be a hard crust to bite into, but actually the bun was quite soft and fluffy.  We opted for ‘The Original’.  I’m actually a sucker for milk buns, I’ll drive far and wide just to have 1!  I was not disappointed with the one at Bonchaz, definitely enjoyed the sprinkling of icing sugar on top.

Next up, we decided on the Avocado and Brie Sandwich.  I’m not an avocado-lover, actually I avoid avocado as much as I can.  But, I believe in change, and this sandwich.changed.me.  After my first bite, I had to have another, and another and another.  The avocado and brie paired with the balsamic dressing on the bun was a great combination.  It had just enough balsamic to balance out the creaminess of the brie.  I really liked this sandwich, avocado and all!

Last but not least, I chose the Vegan Chili.  This certainly had a lot of filling to it, but the taste was just so-so for me.  Perhaps I’m too used to my chili with meat, but this had a bit too much tang to it.  Nonetheless, it was nice to have a hot soup on this cold day.

Overall, I really enjoyed my experience at Bonchaz.  They also have other pastries and baked goods to munch on as well.  I kept eye-ing the display cases to see which items I would come back for as they all looked scrumptious!(okay, that’s my pastry-loving side coming out)  Thanks again to Vaneats and Bonchaz for inviting us down!   Now, go get the deal before it’s all gone! =)
