King Mahal

April 23, 2013 6:00 am / Leave a Comment / 604munchies

I’ve been really craving Indian food lately, so we decided to try out King Mahal on our way home from work one day.  Parking is nice and easy since there’s plenty of street parking around.  All the times that I’ve been to Burgers etc on the same block, I never noticed King Mahal!  If it wasn’t for the board outside, I would’ve walked right past it again.

King Mahal - 00 Outside

King Mahal
4051 Hastings Street, Vancouver BC
Tel#:  (604) 222-2253

We arrived by 5:30pm and were the only customers in the restaurant.  This place seems to have a lot of takeout/delivery orders as we kept hearing the phone ring and the kitchen was cooking up a storm!  We figured that was a good sign.

Once you order, you’ve given a complimentary plate of chips and dip.  We loved munching on this while waiting for our food to arrive.
King Mahal - 03 Aloo GobiKing Mahal - 04 Butter Chicken

Marv LOVES Aloo Gobi, so we always order this dish.  The portion sizes here are quite generous, and the aloo gobi was strong in flavour and quite delicious!  To the right is the Butter Chicken.  Another dish that we always order.  For years and years, I hated butter chicken, I always found it to be too strong of a ‘butter’ taste to it.  But lately, I’ve fallen in love with this dish!  I just can’t get enough of it and it was the case here.  I scooped up every last drop of sauce in this dish even though I was about burst, but it was well worth it!
King Mahal - 05 Rogan Josh LambKing Mahal - 06 Garlic Naan

Marv also decided to get the Lamb Korma.  The lamb was nicely cooked and melded well with the korma.  We both agreed that the butter chicken was better than the korma.  To the right is the Garlic Naan.  These arrived piping hot to the table, and I was overly eager to eat and burnt myself in the process haha!

King Mahal - 07 Rice

Last but not least, we also ordered a serving of rice with our meal.  Unfortunately this was not a seller on our table.  We kept choosing naan over the rice, next time we’ll have to skip the rice and just add more naan instead.

Overall, we both really enjoyed our visit to King Mahal.  I was quite surprised by the food and service here and will probably become a ‘regular’ here since it’s pretty close to home.  I’d really like to try their lunch buffet one day!
