Another dim sum outing with my friends! This time we’re trying Western Lake on Victoria Dr. Everytime we pass this place on the weekend, it looks full with a lineup outside the door. So what is it that makes people endure these lineups??
Above left we have the Chicken Rice, I was surprised by how big this dish was. I guess I’m more used to the small metal cups of rice that it usually comes in. This one came in a claypot and was pretty good! I’d definitely order this again, but it is a ‘filler’ dish! To the right is the Shrimp Dumplings. Again, these were pretty big! The shrimp had a nice crunch to it and wrapper was thin, we enjoyed this.
Next up, we ordered the Pan Fried Radish. I enjoyed having these in bite sized pieces. It’s more easily shareable and you get more of a crispy texture around each piece. To the right is the Sticky Rice with Chinese Sausage. I LOVED THIS DISH! Seriously, I’d eat this dish all day, everyday if I could. Which reminds me, time to look up some recipes to try out at home!
The Mango Pudding comes in a neat heart shape. I wish they’d bring this one out last, but no luck. It actually came pretty close to the beginning of the meal. To the right is the Scallop Dumpling.
Next up, we have the XLB. Xlb? at a dim sum place? Well, I was really craving it. Again, the pieces were pretty big….beginning to see a pattern with this restaurant.. It was juicy and soupy, it satisfied my craving. To the right is the Chicken Feet! There was a plentiful amount of pieces. I always find this dish best when eaten hot, not a fan once it cools down.
Shrimp Rice Roll came next. I find I always order some sort of rice roll whenever I’m at a dim sum restaurant. I guess growing up, we always ate beef rice rolls at dim sum so it’s just stuck with me. To the right is the Crispy Tofu. It was fried nicely with garlic chips. Could use a bit more spice for a nice kick.
Panfried Shrimp Eggplant, is it just me or do the servers always cut the pieces in half and 1 portion you have the shrimp, and the other half the eggplant? How are we supposed to enjoy the dish properly? To the right is the Shui Mai. These were bouncy, but easily forgettable.
Last but not least, we ordered the Pan Fried Rice Noodles. It’s a simple dish, but great when done well. These were bouncy and not mushy. I enjoyed this dish.
Overall, I enjoyed the dim sum here. The food is good and prices are low, I guess that’s why there’s always a lineup out the door here. You can also make reservations here, but even with our reservations we ended up waiting a bit for our table.

Maybe because you zoomed into the chicken rice dish, but the pieces of chicken look so BIG.
