I know what you must be thinking…. Japanese again?!… and Richmond?? Yes.. we are once again having dinner in Richmond at a Japanese restaurant. This time we ventured off to Sushi House located in the Continental Plaza Mall just off of Cambie in between Garden City and 3 Rd. I would’ve never noticed this place at all as I don’t drive around the plaza, but luckily Marv had already visited this place a few times.
Since Marv has already visited this restaurant a few times and I haven’t, he has volunteered(or should I say…DEMANDED) that he would order for the both of us. 🙂
The restaurant is small and would probably not be able to seat a table for 6 if needed. When we got there around 6:30pm on a Friday night, all the tables were either reserved or already taken. We were immediately directed to the counter in which we opted to sit at one of the window counters.
To start us off, we received the 6 pieces of Toro Nigiri. The Toro was very fresh and tasty. Compared with Gyo-O, it’d be a slight win for Sushi House!
Next, we ordered the Crazy Boy Roll. This was a deep fried california roll using tempura batter for the outer layer and sprinkled with spicy tobiko and green onions.
At first glance, you would think this roll would be oily, but in fact it was not. There was nothing too spectacular with this roll, but hey, it was deep fried!….how can you resist??
Of course we had to have the House roll. I did not have any, but the each piece was huge! I made a bet with Marv that he wouldn’t be able to stuff an entire piece in his mouth and eat it without any help from the tea.. did he do it?!… Yup, he proved me wrong!
Last but not least was the Sound Trap Roll. This had unagi and cream cheese in it.
Personally, I enjoyed this roll very much. Unagi and cream cheese… what’s not to like? I’d definitely order this roll again. Marv on the other hand did not enjoy the roll as much as I did since he’s not a fan of cream cheese in sushi rolls(but I think it’s really because he’s becoming more lactose intolerant! Oh well, leaves more for me!)
The service was prompt and attentive. It was not hard to flag a server down since the place is so tiny. Overall, it was a great first experience and would definitely add this to our ‘go to’ place for sushi whether it be for dine-in or take out.
