Top Gun

January 4, 2011 6:00 am / 3 Comments / 604munchies

Marvs family always takes me out to dinner and tonight I finally get the opportunity to take them out for dinner 🙂  It was also his dads birthday!  I decided to take them to Top Gun since I had seen all these blog posts from Food For Buddha.  They make everything look so delicious there, so I knew I just had to try it out! 🙂

Top Gun
8766 McKim Way  Richmond BC
Tel# (604) 231-8006

Thanks again to BuddhaGirl for all the recommendations on certain dishes!  They were fantastic! 🙂

Of course we had to order Marvs favourite, Chrysanthemum Tea.

This was very flavourful compared to some other restaurants that we’ve been to.  After the tea, I knew this dinner would be good loL!

We received the peanuts and xo sauce next.

The first dish to arrive was our Hot and Sour Soup.

This was not spicy like the one I had at Northern Delicacy.  It was not overpowering and was well balanced.  It had lots of ‘filling’ in the soup too.   Apparently the soup looked so yummy that the table beside us decided to also order this soup! 🙂

This is the 8 Treasures Duck.

The duck was very meaty!  It was stuffed with sticky rice, chestnuts, egg, etc on a bed of spinach.  I did not expect this dish to be so big!  It was very heavy and rich.  Since this dish came out first, I think we all got kinda full on it… oh dear, must save room for the rest of the meal!

Next up was the Egg Tofu in Pork Sauce.  (These next 3 dishes were recommendations by BuddhaGirl! )

The tofu was very delicate and firm.  It was very tasty and retained its crispty texture while being smothered in the pork sauce.  The sauce was also very flavourful.  I think I’d order some rice next time so I can gobble up all the sauce!  lol!

The Sweet and Sour Pork Cheeks came out next!

Oh. My. God.  Lol!  This was a GREAT alternative to the regular sweet and sour pork!  This dish was gone quickly.  There was Lychee pieces instead of pineapple.  This is definitely something I would order again… can’t go back to the regular sweet and sour pork now!! Lol!

Last dish to arrive was the Typhoon Shelter Crab.

We specifically asked for this dish to be served last as we wanted to be able to enjoy all the other dishes instead of just concentrating on the crab lol.  It was not oily at all.  The garlic and chili seasoning was very fragrant and crisp.   I liked that there was a lot of the seasoning to eat on its own.

Finally, we had the house dessert.

This was nice and freshing after the heavy meal we had just devoured =)  The ginger and yam helped balance and cleanse our palate 🙂   Overall, we enjoyed this meal.  Everyone was pretty stuffed.  Service was very attentive and prompt, (although there was 1 mishap that I’ll overlook)   Next time I’ll have to come and try out their dim sum! 🙂

We had our Christmas eve dinner at top gun. We also ordered the pork meat sauce on egg tofu and the sweet and sour pork cheeks in addition to other dishes. These are based on our Meet and Dine dinner hosted by Buddhagirl and Buddhaboy. They are really good. Thanks Buddhagirl and Buddhaboy for re-introducing us to Top Gun. The last time I remembered eating at Top Gun was back when they were still in the old Aberdeen mall.

BTW, I hope you applied for the Top Gun discount card. Without the 20% discount, their prices are a bit on the high side.

haha the duck was a bit oily, but it was so good! 🙂 It was huge though, so you might get full on it before eating anything else lol!
