I’ve been to Ddoo Gau Bee a few times, and there really isn’t anything spectacular about the restaurant… but for some reason I had a craving to head all the way into Burquitlam for one of their dishes. So Marv, being a good sport, humoured me and took me all the way to Ddoo Gau Bee for lunch 🙂

Lately I find metal utensils/tableware to be so awesome! I think now I’m gonna have to redecorate all my kitchen tableware! There are only 2 side dishes at this Korean restaurant. Sadly, they do not offer the delicious potato side dish here 🙁 The bowl of rice and the mini dish(of salt and pepper) were accompaniment for our main dishes.
We decided to order the Beef Broth Soup.
We found this to be extremely bland. You had to use the salt & pepper to season the soup yourself. I guess it’s a good since it’s up to your own preference, but the beef and vermicelli had no flavour to it. We didn’t even finish 1/2 of this dish(and Marv’s the one who doesn’t like to waste food!) lol!
This next dish is the real reason why I wanted to come all the way here!
This is called Kanpoong ki. It’s fried crispy chicken in a hot chili vegetable sauce. If you enjoy spicy food, you will love this dish! This was delicious! The chicken was tender, juicy, crispy and portion-wise, it feels like you’re eating an entire chicken. This dish is not cheap… it’s about $18 for this one, I guess that’s why there’s so much chicken on the plate! Mmm.. so good!
We decided to order the Spicy Crunch Roll.
This was not good. The rice was not sushi rice. We would’ve preferred eating sushi rolls from T&T.
We ordered different rolls the last few times we came, and it seems like everything is a california roll, but topped with something different, hence a different name to the roll. We vowed after this experience not to order anymore rolls again!
Last but not least, I wanted to try out the Fried Dumplings.
There was not much filling in the dumplings. The wrap was very crunchy and oily. The sweet and sour sauce was also quite bland.
Overall, the only dish I would come here for(actually I did come here for) is the Kanpoong ki, other than that, all our other dishes would be considered a fail. As for service, it is pretty lousy! During every visit, it would take us an eternity to get any servers attention so if you enjoy drinking tea, good luck on getting a refill!

Hmm, try Insadong across the street instead.
BTW, is the sushi at Cho Sun any good?
Never tried the sushi at Cho Sun yet, I think I’m more focused on the soup and beef rib dish every time that we go there 🙂 Maybe next time I’ll remember to check the menu and try other dishes lol!
Insadong? have you been? was it good?
