Since Dine Out Vancouver was happening, Marv ‘n I decided to try out a few places. Our first place to hit was Herons. This is located in downtown waterfront at the Fairmont. I did not know there are 2 Fairmonts within a 2 block radius, so we ended up parking at the wrong hotel. Lol! After asking the concierge, we were on our way down the block to the correct hotel.

We were greeted instantly at the entrance way and guided to our seat. I noticed we were the only patrons dining on this side of the restaurant, it created a private atmosphere till about midway through our dinner when it started to fill up.
The table was quite long for just the 2 of us. I wasn’t even remotely close to being able to reach the other end of the table lol.
The complimentary bread was a generous portion. What really sold this was the whole head of honey roasted garlic! It complimented the bread very well! Marv devoured this quite quickly lol 🙂
For starters, Marv chose the Seared Albacore Tuna & Pork Belly shown on the above left. Tuna was prepared well, the sauce was savory, and was a bit rich. I decided to get the other choice on the menu, the Roasted Squash Salad. I chose this dish because our waiter was upselling this one. Compared to the Tuna, this was much bigger in portion size. Texture wise, everything in this dish was mushy. The goat cheese was too overpowering for me in this dish.
As for the entree, Marv of course chose the meat dish :p He went with the Grilled Lamb Sirloin. The lamb was done medium rare to perfection. It had a great lamb taste. It was a very generous portion.
Our waiter was also upselling this dish, the Seared Smoked Sablefish. Oh. My. God. He was definitely not wrong! We absolutely loved this dish! The fish was fresh and very generously portioned. The sauce was absolutely phenomenal! It was a combination of white chocolate and parsnip, who would’ve thought! But it worked to perfection! It sounds like it would be very sweet, but it’s actually not very sweet. Marv said if he could drink this sauce as a soup, he would! Lol! I now understand why the tables are so much longer, it’s to prevent people from STEALING your sauce :p Even with meat in front of Marv, he went for my sauce first!
And for dessert, Marv went with the Warm Apple Bread Pudding shown above left and I went with the Chocolate Hazelnut Pot Au Creme. Dessert was okay, pudding is pudding, chocolate was well chocolate-y. I think after the entrees, we were already pretty stuffed!
I feel the need to make a special section regarding our waiter Eduardo for the evening. He was exceptional. We found him to be very friendly, personable, and even had some funny jokes(albeit, he probably told the same jokes to everyone, but it still worked!) He was very prompt, knowledgeable, and extremely helpful in deciding what to order. We enjoyed the Sablefish sauce so much that he even went and came back with a recipe for us to try to replicate. He definitely made our dining experience a great one to remember. 🙂

The squash salad looks like it has oyster motoyaki on top. Hehe! The proteins in the entrees look massive!
