Marv wanted to go to the point for dineout this year since he had enjoyed his last visit, so Marvs sister and I joined him for dinner 🙂 Driving along Chatham street, we kept going further away from the buildings/storefronts/restaurants. I was beginning to wonder if we had already passed the place, but Marv said he knew where he was going and it was just a bit further down. And there it was, I would have never known this place existed!

He explained that this time around, the place felt different because of the added tvs in the dining area. They served as a distraction and the place felt outdated once we walked in. The wait staff are still as friendly and helpful as his last dining experience there but he felt that it just needed a makeover in terms of decor. FYI, if you drive a lowered car, there’s a ridiculously steep slope in the tiny parking lot out front, and Marv scrapped his car along it the last time he went there, so we opted to park across the street for this visit. 🙂
We found the a la carte menu to host a variety of different dishes. It was pretty much all over the place. Butter chicken wrap? Italian pasta? Marvs sister and I ended up choosing to go with the dine out menu while Marv ventured off to be different and went with 2 entrees. Yes, TWO entrees.
Marvs sister went with the Seared Ahi Tuna shown above left. It was dusted with roasted spices atop a fennel salad with a sweet soy sauce. It actually tasted like hoi sin sauce. This dish was well prepared. The tuna tasted fresh and it was a very generous portion for an appetizer. With a bit of prodding from Marv, I decided to get the Molasses and Cinnamon Short Ribs. It was glazed in a carmelized onion and molasses demi glaze on top of a jalapeno corn bread. The short rib was pretty solid, but the corn bread was much too mushy for my liking.
As for the entree, Marvs sis chose to go with the Tuna again 🙂 This time it was ahi tuna atop a bed of risotto, asparagus or green beans, buttery turmeric dill broth. This dish was also very well executed. We found that portion wise, this was a lot smaller than the appetizer. Again, with some more prodding from Marv, I went with the Pointed Beef Wellington. This was served with goat cheese, golden nugget potatoes with a cauliflower puree. This was pretty tasty, although i do wish there was a bit more sauce. It ended up being a bit too dry towards the end.
For the 2 entrees, Marv chose the Crab and Spinach Shells and the Bison Burger. Surprisingly, the crab stuffed pasta shells was a hit with the table! 🙂 The pasta shells were filled with crab, spinach & ricotta cheese. Dipping the garlic baguette into the tomato cream sauce was so good! As for the bison burger, Marv found it to be very boring/bland. The house salad that it was served with had a very tasty blueberry vinaigrette.
For dessert, Marvs sis went with the Creme Brulee and I chose the Chocolate Cake. Marvs sis enjoyed the creme brulee, it was not too overpoweringly sweet. The chocolate cake was dense and rich, but I very much enjoyed it 🙂 I think it would’ve been best to get a glass of milk to go with it.
Overall, dinner was just alright. There was nothing too memorable about it. Service was very good, the wait time in between the dishes was a bit longer than expected even though the restaurant was only about 1/2 full.

Not too great?? =( That’s too bad, sounds like it would be a good place to go for a group or with someone *cough* who is really really picky because they have such a broad selection! Maybe it’s much better when it’s not Dine Out?
Hmmm that’s possible! Marv tried it before and liked it, give it a try and let us know how you like it! =)
