This restaurant is now closed.
It’s my birthday month! And YES, there is such a thing! So for the whole month of FEB its nothing but eating good quality foods.
And tonight was no exception. Trying to find easy parking in richmond is difficult enough as it is and going to restaurants late? Forget about it….. WE couldn’t decide where to eat tonight so it took a little longer to get out of the house and decide where to go.
So after an hour or so, we decided on Pho. Westlake Vietnamese Kitchen to be exact. However I made a mistake in my location and there was no Westlake. Booo! (Don’t worry Westlake, I will find you) So here we were, stuck in a crowded parking lot, people scavenging for spots and I didn’t know where the restaurant is. Had to decide quickly where else to go and sacrifice my rockstar parking.
The only other place I could think of that we were 5mins away from was Continental plaza, a bunch of restaurants are there and we can always count on parking there.
Beijing Cuisine
1118-3779 Sexsmith Rd, Richmond BC
Tel#: (604) 273-7300
After going around in the plaza we decided on Beijing Cuisine. Once we went in the restaurant we noticed that it was not full but all the tables had a ‘reserve’ sign on them. The hostess ask us if we had a reservation and we of course didn’t….after being discussed if they had any tables available we were seated in the end corner. I got seated on the edge as there were 5 of us for dinner and they gave us a table for 4. It didn’t bother me cause we were lucky enough to get a table as it is.
I’ve eaten here before and this is actually the newly opened version of the old beijing noodle house on buswell (same owner, different location)
We didn’t know what to order so the waitress suggested that we try their set dinner for 4 special. It was all written in chinese but she was nice enough to translate to us what was included in the set. I said that she didn’t have to and that it would be a surprise but my sister insisted on the explanation as she didn’t want to get stuck with stuff she didn’t want to eat. lol
Our first dishes to arrive was their Cold Beef and Cold Cabbage appetizers. The beef was flavourful and soft. While the cabbage was cabbage.
Next was the Spicy Chicken. Doesn’t it look crazy spicy? My mom was the only one brave enough to try it first lol She said it was nice, moderately spicy and it had a sweetness to it. Hmmm, I jumped right in and gave it a try. It was rather delicious. I enjoyed this dish very much.
Our next dish was weird, its a Sticky Rice with buns on the side. We sorta agreed this dish was weird because we don’t really put rice in buns, sooooooo we tried it anyways and it was weird. The rice was lacking in flavour but chilli sauce did the trick. I just ate the rice on its own after. lol
Next up was the Fish in Mushroom and Pork sauce. It needs more sauce. I tasted the sauce and it was salty. Just wanted more of it to cover the fish. Other wise the fish was fresh and it was good.
Soup…..Egg swirl with tomato soup. God awful. Bland like water and just disappointing in general.
Dumplings plopped down next. They were boiled and it was cold when it got to our table. It lacked flavour, however it must be due to the fact that we didn’t receive vinegar to dip it into.
The vegetable dish came next and I don’t have a clue what this is called. It looks like a chinese version of a lettuce. lol. Basic stir fry, I ate it cause I was hungry. haaha
Dessert is this type of Steamed Sponge cake. Dry.
Overall, the dinner we ate was interesting and consisted of dishes I would not have normally ordered. I’d like to point out that our meal came with 4bowls of rice that never came. So when we asked for our rice our waitress said that you would have to ask for the rice or else they wouldn’t bring it out to you. hmmmm? I don’t get it? Sooooo, I pay for rice in the set meal and don’t get it? lmao But the funny thing is, when our bill arrived there was a charge of $5 for 4 bowls of rice. So naturally I had to ask why and she was kind enough to remove it off our bill and re-configure our total.

Hi 604Munchies: If you like Vietnamese, have you tried Green lemongrass in Richmond? There is another GL on Kingsway too. I think you will like it over West lake. West lake is more Chinese-y. Ben
Hey Ben!
I’ve tried Green lemongrass in Richmond but that was ages ago… I just searched on your site for a post on it and the kingsway one looks really good! Looks like we’ll have to make a stop there soon hehe Thanks for the suggestion! =)
I agree with Ben! I am not a big fan of Vietnamese food (well, except Phnom Penh, but it’s more Cambodian/Vietnamese/Chinese), but Green Lemongrass is good. We went to the one on Kingsway.
HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!
Hahahaha! Marv, you’re just like me! Celebrate my birthday as the “month” not the “day”…hahahahaha!
For the sticky rice with bun, it’s a common norther chinese dish, a carb-overload due to the cold weather…hahaha…my bro and I use to eat it as snacks back in childhood.
As for dumpling (originated from northern China), it’s actually quite proper to have it pretty tasteless just by itself because it’s meant to be dipped in a sauce consists of soy sauce, vinegar and sesame oil, along with a bite of garlic for every bite of the dumpling. However, nowadays, most people (including myself sometimes) would just chopped the garlic and mix it in the sauce.
You’re right, the veggie dish is a kind of lettuce. Commonly known as A-Choy (A菜) in Mandarin, or You-Mut-Choy (油蜜菜) in Cantonese. It’s one of my favorite! It’s actually one of the most common veggies in Taiwan.
Marv: Hey BG! Lol, Thanks for the tips and info on the dishes and stuff. Also thanks again for the bday wishes! It’s already march! boooo! Need a longer month than that haha =]
