Lucy’s Eastside Diner…. someone was telling me to come here and try it out. Since I really enjoy the whole diner vibe, I put this on my list of places to try! Normally I don’t venture on Main street for food, but Marv really wanted to go to The Cascade again, so we made our way over to Main. After I parked and fed the meter, we realized The Cascade doesn’t open for lunch! LOL, so I dragged Marv up the block over to Lucy’s for a quick bite. This ended up being a bad decision.

Upon entering the place, all the booths were taken. We decided to take a seat up on the counter. I’ve never really sat at a counter before at a diner, this was a new experience for me lol =) Our server was quick to provide water to us, and gave us a few minutes to peruse the menu. The place is quite clean, and there’s even a menu signboard near the entrance of restaurant. There are booths towards the back of the place, however these only seat 2 people, so going with a large group would not be ideal.
It looks like you can get a ‘screamer’ at this place as well! On the menu it says you can order a ‘slush’ and they’d mix in vanilla ice cream. Sounded tempting, but I decided to get a root beer instead!
For my meal, I had a hard time deciding what to try, so I ended up getting a Grilled Cheese Sandwich with Tomato Soup. The tomato soup was not good. It was completely bland, very watery and didn’t have any resemblance to what a tomato soup should be. I stopped eating that after 2 spoonfuls. The sandwich did not help this dish at all. While the bread was nicely toasted, the cheese was not stringy, it was clumped together and not tasty. I thought my dish was going to be the epic fail dish between the 2 of us, until …..
Marv went with the Chicken Dinner. This was 3 chicken drumsticks, mashed potato with gravy, and vegetables. Again, this dish was bland, salt and pepper was greatly needed. Marv had only eaten 1 scoop of the mashed potatoes before he dug into the chicken and found…
…that it was still pretty uncooked! He stopped eating and cut through the other pieces to see if they were all uncooked, and sure enough, it was all uncooked. After a short wait, we were finally able to flag down someone to have this dish returned and waited for another one. Unfortunately, the entire meal was a let down, so we decided to ask for his meal to go, so we could leave asap.
We didn’t bother opening the takeout box until we got home, but they had only packed up the 3 drumsticks. The entire portion of mashed potatoes and vegetables were pretty much untouched on the plate that we returned, but I guess they thought we shouldn’t have that packed/redone.
Overall, we were pretty disappointed with the food quality. I am also quite dissatisfied with their lack of acknowledgement towards their mistake. There was no apology, just took the plate away and had the cook redo the chicken. I had expected the rest of the dish to be in the takeout box as well since he did not eat any of it besides 1 bite. I think that had they been more openly admitting their mistake, I would not hold it too hard against them, however their lack of customer service and ability to fix their mistake is just unacceptable. This atrocious meal cost us about $25. We will definitely not be returning again, I’d say this entire experience was an epic fail.

i’ve always wanted to try red uncooked chicken!! Call it chicken sashimi!!! wooooot!!
haha gross.. :p
Ooooooh…someone suggested this place to us too…but now I am having second thoughts…
lol, we totally didn’t enjoy it, we even thought about paying for it, but leaving the food untouched. We did see some of the breakfast items, and those looked decent, hopefully it’s not bland as well…
This place is a total let down. I was happy a few months ago to see a new diner in the neighborhood, but I make better food at home with less grease. It’s all style and no substance. Skip this and go a few blocks over to the new location of Slickety Jim’s.
OR if you simply must eat nearly inedible diner food in old-school style, go to Burt’s or Helen’s and at least enjoy immediate seating in a comfy booth.
Hey Vox Angel! 🙂 Welcome to the blog!
Agreed, I was a bit excited to try this place out, but I can’t believe it was a complete miss! It shouldn’t be that difficult to execute edible food…
I’ve heard a bit about Slickety Jim’s, is this the place that had a fire awhile ago? Thanks for the suggestion, I’ll give it a shot! =)
oh wow! thats really bad…
yellow tomato soup… i thought it was melted cheese for you to dip your bread LOL!
