Dim sum is a staple for us and we’re making it a point to try a bunch if not all the dim sum places in Richmond. I’ve eaten here before and was already impressed by the quality of food back then, this time around it was due for a repeat. Just so you know, this parking lot here gets super full if you get there later in the morning. So go early!

I don’t have a clue as to who this old lady is but for some reason she got into the shot and well, I was in a hurry to snap the picture so I can grab a table inside and I thought she would walk slow enough for me to just miss her…….guess it wasn’t the case for this grandma over here. LOL
The interior has been beautifully renovated. A major plus in my books. Not to mention the staff all speak english and are very friendly even on such a busy sunday morning. Luckily for us, we were able to snag a table quick without even waiting for more than a minute. hehe. I like chrysanthemum tea. I always order this everytime we go to dim sum and I drink it even at home. A very fragrant tea in my opinion. We got seated and were given the order sheet(which is all in chinese), if you’re like us and can’t read it, you’ll have to go through the booklet menu and match up the numbers to the order sheet 🙂
Our first order to arrive was the Minced beef rice roll. It is Colleen’s ‘must have’ for every dim sum meal. I’ve had this dish so many times that I don’t even touch it when it reaches the table, however, this time it’s different. The minced beef inside was very much like what you would get from the beef ball had it been shaped into a ball rather than flattened out in this version. It had tons of meat inside and the flavors were pretty good. I had more than 2 pieces this time. LOL
The baked bbq pork bun was very yummy, this had a very soft outer shell and the filling was rather generous compared to other establishments. We thoroughly enjoyed this version and it is a definite repeat for us. One thing that did bother us after was that the shell had a rather oily residue. Just use a napkin to hold it for future reference.
The egg tart came out pretty warm and freshly baked. I was incredibly taken by it. I had to have one as soon as it touched down on our table. Just the right consistency and texture, not overly sweet or runny. The marinated tofu with pork intestines was my order. It did not have a lot of intestines on it but the tofu pieces were quite chunky and delicate. Well flavored indeed, however the peanuts that it came with were super salty and ended up being not touched.
And I made a mistake in ordering the stuffed eggplant with shrimp dish, what I initially wanted was a deep fried stuffed tofu lol. However this dish was still just as good. One complaint is that the shrimp was overcooked and tough to chew. The sauce was also rather bland. I probably won’t order this item again since there are lots of other items on the menu to choose from.
Colleen ordered this rice dish, it is called minced pork with salted fish on rice. Such a long name but man was it tasty. The rice was incredibly fragrant and the meat wasn’t overly salty even with the salted fish and soy sauce added. This one is a repeat on my list. lol
Abalone shrimp pastry was on special……well if you can call $4 for this small piece a special. LMAO The abalone inside was a tiny piece at that. lol It’s outer shell was super duper flaky, excellent puff pastry. The deep fried nest surrounding it was also very crisp!
Colleen opted for a dessert this time around and it was not disappointing. The mango pudding was chilled well and got served to us just as we were finishing up our meal. It had actual mango pieces inside and well to be honest, its one of the best mango pudding I’ve ever had for a dim sum dessert.
Dim sum today was very pleasant, very good atmosphere and excellent food items. We will definitely be back to this restaurant soon and I hope the quality and standards remain the same for many years to come.

Ooooh! I wanted to try this place for a while since it was renovated!
Just to let you know, you can also add Chrysanthemum to any tea you choose…other than Pu-erh, I would sometimes order Jasmine+Chrysanthemum…
Marv: Thanks for the info BG! I also like to drink ‘bo lei’ tea cause it’s stronger. Next time you can help me mix a concoction up since I have no idea how to say it in chinese =] Thanks for volunteering!!!! hehe
