Since we enjoyed our visit very much for dim sum, we decided to take my family here for mother’s day dinner. Of course knowing me we had it earlier than the norm, both in date and time. LOL
I’d like to personally give a shout out to my mom here and say that it doesn’t matter what I type here to express my feelings towards how much I care and love her, it will never be enough. I know that I will never be able to repay her kindness and dedication as a mother. Although my mom doesn’t read our blog, it’s still worth noting, “mom, you are appreciated”
It’s a funny thing which makes me laugh, people always come up to me and ask me what supplements I take or how I get so big in general, I only answer them one thing and one thing only, “my mom’s cooking” ahahahahahahaha
We never got to take pictures of the interior on our previous visit because it was just that busy and crowded. This time was different, we had a quiet early dinner and as you can see, the restaurant was 90% empty. I really liked these lighting fixture they got, very modern chic. lol
Lovely table settings too. Very classy LoL! Which can only mean one thing in my book, this dinner wasn’t going to be cheap. hahahaa
Well, I don’t know how to translate this in english since the slip came back in chinese…..but basically this deep fried crab was cooked with a mix of garlic/dried shrimp/chillies/black beans…. something new for us to try and it was sorta over powering in my opinion. The dried shrimp was very strong in flavor already and I felt it took over the crab’s natural taste. But the crab was still very fresh and the dish was well executed.
This next dish was a green bean cooked in dried shredded scallop and minced pork. We found this to be very fragrant. Our only complaint is that the green beans were not crispy enough. Other than that there was a generous amount of minced pork at the bottom of the plate once we started digging in.
Deep fried crispy chicken was popular amongst the other tabled around us when I looked over. Free range chicken I guess, since it was a skinny little guy. Not much in flavor and overly fried to say the least. Most of the pieces were pretty hard to chew and for a half chicken, this dish was rather small. The deep fried taro on top was a very nice touch.
Up next are 2 more seafood dishes, deep fried fish fillet in a cream of corn sauce. This was just average, but once again the portion was bigger than we expected. Oysters with ginger and onions hotpot is pictured second here…I must say that this dish was not cheap, as far as the flavor goes, again, average. We’ve had this else where better and cheaper.
And I know what you’re thinking, soup at the end? Yes! Our crab meat and fish maw soup sat on another table next to us for the longest time and not until I notified a waitress to see if that was indeed our soup and if she would be so kind as to serve it for us then she did.
The rest of the soup was then taken away from us, we did not know if we still had soup in the pot. My mom wasn’t sure if the pot sitting on an empty table further away from us was ours, not until the head waiter guy came and asked if we wanted more soup or not. And this was already after we started to eat our rice again. We already discarded our soup bowls too! I can never understand why chinese restaurants don’t employ the western version of having a certain server per table, makes perfect sense to me to have one person know whats going on per table rather than a a few who keep walking around you and they have no idea what’s already on the table or not.
At the end of the meal we were offered free desserts, which consisted of almond cookies and sesame red bean balls. Both were well made and delicious. We also received bowls of red bean soup, but the pictures were blurry! lol
Overall, food was a hit and miss and the service was excellent till the place got full, which probably resulted in the soup fiasco. I’d definitely come back again for the dim sum!
