It was a nice day outside and since Colleen’s friend Edwin had a craving for japanese, we decided to head to another AYCE place in richmond. Its funny, we were the first customers for the night. WOOT! So naturally we decided to pick a table by the window. Ah, richmond parking at its best. I think we were more distracted over the fact whether Colleen’s car was going to get hit or not. lol
Ninkazu Japanese Restaurant
4231 Hazelbridge Way, Richmond BC
Tel#: (604) 279-9077
We got seated and served very promptly with tea and the menu, as for the service, it was courteous and friendly.
The inside of the restaurant is rather spacious. Also, not only do they offer Jap AYCE, they also have HOTPOT AYCE. I’ve never had the hotpot here myself but I’m sure its about the same as everywhere else.
So after going through their extensive Deluxe menu, all 3 of us wrote down a few numbers of what we all wanted to eat and here we go…………..
To start us off we have, Miso soup, green salad, gomae and fresh raw oysters. The miso was soso. Green salad had waaaay too much dressing, infact after Colleen was done, half the bowl was filled with the dressing. Gomae didn’t really had a lot of taste to it. The Oysters were rather small, but still fresh and good. I ended up ordering more later.
The sashimi selection was pretty good. It had my toro, so for me that was good enough. The freshness and flavour of the fish was again average for AYCE places. The chicken teriyaki was good, but then again anything slathered with this much sauce outta taste like somthing. lol
Their gyoza was ok, nothing spectacular. The agadashi tofu was not the soft tofu type, but had a medium firmness to it. I’m a fan of tofu so any tofu is good tofu.
For some reason they mixed the tuna tataki with the beef tataki. I wasn’t impressed. Yes they will all get mixed up in the stomach anywayz but still… flavourless to both items. The spring rolls were a veg type, crispy fried and again, relying too much on the sauce.
Korean pork is what it says on the tick sheet, very dry and spicy. We also ordered a bunch of different rolls and cones, the cones weren’t so great because the seaweed had already gotten soft and chewy. As far as the rolls were, typical sushi stuff.
Heres some deep fried stuff. Ebi tempura was good. I particularly enjoyed the dipping sauce it came with because it was sweeter than usual, lol. Chicken wings were nicely fried and was served hot. Good job!
Here’s Colleens order, tuna sushi and unagi sushi. Her 2 regular items. Again, as for the unagi cone, it was rather hard to eat due to the seaweed being soggy.
Have you ever had a vegetable sushi before? Rather weird-ish. It had carrots, cucumbers and avocado. I prefer my sashimi or meat over this one.
Overall our dinner was of average AYCE quality. It will fill you up and the food is edible. I’ve had worse, believe me. So if I’m in richmond looking for an AYCE place, I would definitely choose this restaurant over the other one who has the name ‘richmond’ in it.

Their Ebi Tempura is actually really good for an AYCE place!
