First off I’d like to say “sorry Meryl” ahahahaha I know you like this place! =]
Ahh, Kingsway sushi. I haven’t been here since it opened like a few years ago. And there was a good reason.  There’s parking along kingsway and a lot underneath the building.

Kingsway Sushi
3665 Kingsway, Vancouver BC
Tel#: (604) 433-6388

When we got in the restaurant it wasn’t even full yet, but for some reason after the host asked us how many people we were in total he kept us standing there while they were conversing in chinese for like 5 minutes….in English!, peoples! Anyways, after a translation from Colleen apparently they were going on about a reservation that wasn’t there yet and whether they should give us the table or not. So naturally they did, because money comes first! And btw, the restaurant was half empty once we got in, huh! Also it ain’t cheap here eh…$30 per person for the deluxe AYCE. And here we go…………………

We were eating with Colleens friends tonight and it’s always a pleasure to hang and chill with good people. That’s right Belinda and Meryl! You’re awesome!

So once all our party had arrived we were ready to order and start stuffing our faces.

Our server was an old man with an attitude problem. I ordered since I was the closest one to him, I started by asking if they had fresh raw oysters, he heckled, like a smirk or a laugh, I’m not sure, but NO they don’t have em…..then I asked if they had TORO sushi, again, a smile on his face, or is he making fun of me now, I still don’t get it, but NO they don’t.

I’m confused, this is the deluxe menu right? At this point the girls took over the ordering process as I had to hold my tongue and chillax before I say something deemed inappropriate.

The first thing that came to our table was Beef tataki (above right). I didn’t find it anything special.

Next up was their special rolls Scallop pearl and lobster roll (above left, yes that is a jello) Fried rice and black cod (above right) cod was alright, sweet and dry. Rice was hard.

Unagi sushi, tuna tataki and tuna sashimi (above left) unagi wasnt oily, which was good. Both Tunas was soso.

The one on the right was a Shrimp ball, deep fried and sauce with thai chilli sauce. Didn’t get to try this.

Agadashi tofu (above left) it was soft tofu and it was a fairly big piece too. Not bad, I enjoy tofu. Above right was yakitori versions of chicken and pork cheeks. I like pork cheeks =) Sauce did all the flavouring.

Chicken karaage (above left) I thought it was chicken knee due to the actual size it came in, lol. Ahh oysters (top right) did it disappoint? YES it did! Soooo oily man. and the oyster piece was small and hard. Gross!

Up left we have Potstickers, another glorious fail. I can’t even remember the taste, had to wash it down with water. Oh, which reminds me, when the old guy came to refill my water, he used his palm to grab my cup from the top lip part and dragged it to the pitcher, gross right? This was after he was just putting other peoples dishes away into the empty food tray bin, needles to say, I took Colleen’s water from her and that was that.

The Chawamushi on the top right was Belinda’s order, how was it Bel?

The special on the deluxe menu was this, Sockeye salmon (above left) I didn’t find it deluxe worthy. I want my TORO dammit. Above right we got a tiny teaspoons portion of Gomae and a salad. The spinach was dry and the sauce was tasteless.

More sushi to fill us up and we tried their Udon (the sad lookin one) and next to it is their Garlic butter shrimp. Now surprisingly, this was good. hahaha, I know right?

Chicken wings (above left) it came hot and it again, wasn’t bad. Short ribs to the right and it was hard.

Our table had a lot of food left, it was a battle to finish all this food eating with 3 girls, ahahah, kidding. They probably ate more than me.

We finished it off with their desserts. Above right is their version of Milk roll. Deep fried with like a pudding type filling. Colleen enjoyed this, as did I.

Mango pudding and baked Tapioca pudding just to try the rest of the dessert items.

Tapioca was decent. It had a black sesame something inside as a filling….it was sweet and soso. I ate everyones share. Not a seller on the table. lol……

Overall dinner was soso, for what its worth the food was at par with other lower end AYCE places, I can name 3 at the top of my head. Places I will never ever eat at again. The sheer mention of those places makes my tummy hurt =(

I know to some of you this post might seem a bit harsh, but take it from a guy who ate here at the very beginning and even met and had friends who knew the managers prior. The quality was way better and so was the service.

There’s quite a few servers that we don’t like there, as much as they’re bad servers and give attitude, they’re still there. that’s part of the reason we don’t go much.

Haha. Looking at your other entries, I would say that Kingsway Sushi doesn’t have that great of a selection. The freshness/taste is reasonable, though. No oysters? No toro? Even on the deluxe dinner menu???? C’mon now!
