After watching my brother play hockey, we decided to stop for dinner. I was really craving a burger, so we ended up at White Spot. His wife and a friend joined us for dinner this time.
Who would’ve guessed! My brother decided to go with the Fish & Chips. Yes, this is his usual order, even though he will ponder about another choice, but will always change his mind back to the fish & chips lol! I actually like the fish ‘n chips here too. This was not too oily and had a nice crunch to it.
His wife decided to get the Legendary Burger with zoo sticks and a side caesar salad. I enjoyed the zoo sticks, I guess I really do like anything deep fried lol!
Their friend decided to get the Beef Dip. I didn’t even know White Spot had beef dips! As I did not try this, I will not comment.
And I decided to get the Monty Mushroom Burger. This came with a ton of fries! One tip that my brothers friend gave me was to eat the burger without the lettuce and pickle. I gave that a try and it made a world of a difference! For some reason it went from ‘not bad’ to ‘really good!’ I guess the combination of everything just doesn’t go too well with the lettuce. I mean, it still tastes good with the lettuce in, but without it?! You gotta give it a try if you decide to order this. 🙂
Overall it was a pretty good meal, our waitress was attentive and prompt. The burger and bottomless fries definitely hit the spot for me.

White Spot is one of those places where we might look it down because it offers “generic” food. However, I will disagree: it offers a place where the food is “safe” (in the sense there is something for everybody) and there are not pretenses of anything. Alas, in an attempt to try to reach a selective group, they have created some new dishes that lean more towards fails and, as a side effect, has hit their core business: their burgers and sandwiches.
Sometimes, when I want a regular no frill burger in a place I can sit down, White Spot would be an option. Specially in mid/late summer when they have blueberry “pies” (they weren’t technically a pie but, oh, well…). Not sure about your experience but, when I tried the beef dip, I found the overall sandwich to be extremely salty.
As for lettuce in a burger, it depends on my mood. When I prepare burgers at home, it is literally a meat sandwich: ground meat (OK, I put it in the food processor), some pepper, some salt and THAT’S IT. I then cook it in a searing hot pan and flip it once. Two slices of bread or a kaiser bun, some mustard or mayo and call it a sandwich. No other dressing because I want to “taste” the beef. I have no issues with lettuce; however, it depends partially on other condiments and the bread. Because lettuce by themselves does not have much flavour it serves as a “filler” of sorts; however, if mixed with other components – in this case, specially the bread – it might dampen the flavour a bit. However, in a loaded burger (pickles, onions, several sauces and bun), to me, it does not necessarily detract or add.
Kim,
I think you miss food blogging.
hehehe… I had White Spot/Triple O’s for all my meals in day once….and it wasn’t even planned.
🙂
Nah, I prefer writing blog post length comments in other people’s blogs! 😉
the legendary with zoo sticks is called the grill and greens. Its what my parents get. since almost everyone in bc have eaten at the spot, I would have to recommend adding the “western plate”. It used to be on the menu but they still add it on request. The western plate adds 3 large onion rings and a small caesar salad. It costs $3 extra. I now live in edmonton, and unfortunately there is only one white spot in the city, and it sucks bawls. I found 1 triple o location, at a hospital, and I go there every tuesday for the triple $3.33 special. I miss burnaby.
