After a long day at work I decided to get my family together and have a meal here at Dinesty restaurant right before it opened for dinner service. Early as usual. And lucky too, cause this place got full and busy really quickly. As the same as our previous visits, we had our favorites we wanted to try again and hopefully they would come out tasting the same.
Here we have a typical order of Shanghai Noodles. Cooked in a dark soy sauce blend with some spinach to accent it. This was a decent dish but a smaller portion than what you would expect. To the right, we have some green beans with minced pork. Not as spicy as I would have preferred but still good.
We decided to get an order of fried rice since Colleen loves fried rice! Unfortunately, the fried rice was very dull and lackluster at best. To its side is the delicious shanghainese style shredded pork with pancake wrap. A delicious dish indeed but to the sweet side of what many people who have a sweet tooth would prefer. This is one of my favorites here as the chef does this dish to my liking. Not enough pancake of course but it goes really well with plain old white rice. Colleen has to pile loads of this onto her plate before I can dig in, otherwise she wouldn’t get any at all haha.
This is their fish fillet with wine sauce….a rough translation into english but you get the idea. Both my dad and I love this dish for its simplicity and natural flavors. Let’s face it, its the wine!!! lol But seriously though, good fresh slices of fish were used and again, the sauce it comes in is delicious. To the right is an order of never to be repeated again pork bones with sticky sweet sauce…..ahahaha, no, I was just really disappointed as all the pieces of spareribs were pretty much big chunks of bone. I think they got a discount on the market for it. But anyways, the sauce was waaay too sweet and this was a fail because it was all bone.
Our favorite 3 cup chicken. This was rather well done but again, we found the pieces of chicken very small and very boney. But then again that’s how it’s suppose to be put together. And finally here we have shrimp in mayonnaise. Or as I’d like to call it, rip off dish with mayo. WE counted 8 pieces of shrimp in total and the rest was chunks of pineapple. Not to be repeated I’m sure and well, it’s easy enough to make at home with more shrimps and more pineapples and it still wouldn’t have cost $16 for this order. Yups, my sentiments exactly.
Overall our dinner was so-so, there are some dishes that I would definitely come back for and some I would skip forever. But you can’t tell until you’ve tried it right?! So now we know.
