Where to eat..where to eat?  I was asking my Physio where some good places to eat nearby are and she highly recommended that I go check out Roundel Cafe.  Roundel Cafe?  Where is this place?  And what do they serve?  She told me to order the burger and beer special for $11.  Burger and beer?  Sold!!

Roundel Cafe
2465 E Hastings St, Vancouver BC
Tel#:  (604) 253-2522

We arrived here shortly after 7 and the place was pretty packed.  We luckily got the last booth in the place and was warmly greeted by the waitress.  Knowing this was our first visit here, she also recommended the burger and beer special for $11.  You can also opt for a milkshake instead $0.50 extra.

We totally loved the jars that they use to serve your water in.  Of course we both decided to get a milkshake with our meal.  On the left is the Espresso Milkshake and on the right is the Hazelnut Milkshake.  I have to admit, the milkshake is pretty darn good!  Its thick and full of flavour.  There’s also a lot of it, I was already getting a bit full before our food even arrived.  The espresso milkshake was strong, this was a good milkshake.

For the burger, there are 2 choices.  I opted for the  Tofu Burger on the left and Marv went with the Organic Beef Burger on the right.  They both come with salad and potatoes.  The tofu burger was pretty big, I normally don’t order tofu burgers, but this was actually pretty good!  I may start going for more vegetarian dishes!  The beef burger was also quite juicy.

The ketchup is what my physio was telling me to look out for.  It’s not your usual run of the mill ketchup, this was housemade and extremely tasty!  I wish there was more!  I slathered a ton of this on my burger as well, it was extremely well done.  Now, were we really full from a burger?  I was… but Marv wasn’t.  We also ordered the Ham Hock Mac ‘n Cheese.  I had to have a taste of this too and boy was it good!  I dropped my burger and started eating this mac ‘n cheese instead.  It was pretty creamy and had a nice amount of cheese to it.  The ham hock provided a nicely smoked flavour to each bite.  This is definitely a repeat order on our next visit.

Overall we enjoyed our dinner here and am glad we decided to come here and give it a try.  I was also told their pies are delicious but unfortunately we were already too full for dessert.  That’s something we’ll have to try next time.  As well as their breakfast/brunch on the weekends.  I hear their jam is to die for!
