This restaurant is now closed.
Our good friend LC got us a freebie dinner package and how could we refuse. So we acknowledged it by going there immediately right after work. LOL
I didn’t even know there was a new restaurant in this area, I mean, this area is rather tatty and if any new restaurant were to pop up I would’ve thought it would probably have been a pho place for sure. But since it isn’t and lucky for us I am proud to present to you, FRAY. And through out dinner, all that kept repeating in my head was the voice of liam, “Once more into the fray….”
FRAY
3980 Fraser St, Vancouver BC
Telephone: (604) 558-FRAY
This place was easy to find since I’m somewhat familiar with the area, and again, it doesn’t stand out much because of the dull blue paint in the front but it’s easy enough to spot. Just look for the bright red sign. Upon entering I noticed a bunch of board games and really unique framed movie posters. I would have liked to walk around and check em all out, so maybe next visit I will.
Notice they have a coloring paper complete with a jar of coloring pencils on the side to pass the time. This restaurant is very kid friendly but they can be annoying. I mean really, parents who let their kids run around the restaurant ain’t really helping anyone(which actually happened on our visit. These kids ran round and round and round the entire restaurant). Kids can knock into the servers, slip and fall and cause hurt to themselves and worst of all, annoy me.
Here we go, first to arrive are these little dark things called THE F-BOMB. Pretty sweet name and a pretty sweet dish to boot. These are figs wrapped in bacon. The contrast of flavor with that hint of balsamic is just ever so yummy. I downed the whole thing, offered Colleen one, but luckily she was too distracted by her order of FARMER’S FLATBREAD…this was a hit, I mean, it was so good, I didn’t get offered any by Colleen ahahah. I ended up having to put up a fight for the 2 slices I managed to get off the plate! It’s got sausage, mushrooms, arugula and cheese need I say more.
Here we have our entrees, my choice was the FAT BASTARD PORK BELLY. Nicely roasted and a good portion too, the richness of the pork belly can be over powering after a few bites so mixed with the slaw and fruit compote as sides to this dish gives it a really nice blend.
Next to it is their FRAY BURGER. It’s a good burger, fresh and all. No complaints, but there wasn’t a special taste to it.
To go with the burger are some rosemary chips, its got a good crunch, very similar to Mrs. Vickies potato chips.
The dessert is a nice slice of chocolate silk pie. Is it ever silky and is it ever chocolaty. Yeah, this was a nice end to the meal. Very good quality and again, I only managed to snag a bite.
Overall our dinner was very unique as the couple of dishes stood out of the norm and will definitely be back to try out the other stuff. Thanks again LC, next time you’re coming with us! =]
