Where should we take Edwin out for his belated birthday meal? I kept throwing around ideas and finally we decided to check out Max’s burger since none of us had ever been before. I have to admit, some of the reviews I came across online were a bit discouraging, but I kept an open mind and we were on our way!

For some reason we kept thinking this place was facing Cambie, so we had a bit of a hard time finding it, but actually its on west 8th. Upon entering the restaurant, there’s a sign for you to wait to be seated. The waitress was quick to approach us and led us to our booth. For a early friday afternoon, the place was pretty packed. All I could see was beer after beer being served.
Is it a trend nowadays to have a roll of paper towels on the table instead of napkins? I think I’ve seen this in the past 2 places we’ve eaten at now. Nonetheless, the paper towels served its purpose well! We were definitely not expecting a messy burger today.
On the right is Marvs order of the The Big Max. This is their 5oz patty with shredded lettuce, tomato, pickles and red onions. Marv also opted for their fried red onions as he thought it would be deep fried red onions, but upon closer inspection of the burger, it was sauteed onions. Originally we had wanted to order the Max’s Triple Bypass(which was a mixture of fries, onion rings and yam fries) but our waitress suggested we each order one of the sides with our burger and share so essentially it would be the same as order the bypass. She was very informative, friendly and efficient. I really liked her 🙂
Next up is Edwins Rooster On A Tailgate. This had chicken thighs in bbq sauce, chipotle mayo, cheddar, red onion, lettuce and tomato. This was 1 super saucy chicken burger! The onion rings deserve a mention as well. These were extremely crisp and each one had a nice crunch to it. We enjoyed the onion rings the most out of the 3 sides.
Last but not least is my order of the Pushing Buttons. This had sauteed mushrooms, truffle mayo, swiss cheese, lettuce & tomato. This was 1 juicy, saucy, greasy burger! You can definitely tell when I’m really enjoying what I’m eating. Not once during my meal did I put this burger down after my initial bite. I even missed out on most of the sides trying to finish my burger first! Me? Miss out on the fried food? I am shocked too! The yam fries was the most disappointing out of the 3 sides.
Overall, we all enjoyed our meal here. The burgers we had were surprisingly really good! They coupled a tasty burger with a brioche bun. The bun definitely makes a difference! It’s too bad the area is full of meter parking, otherwise this would’ve been a regular place for us to visit. That’s not to say we won’t be back, actually we already have plans to come back in a couple of weeks! 🙂
